Funny how this year all the griping came from the Republicans who accused the Democrats of griping too much. Shameless in their promotion of this event, using one of the oldest tricks in the book: Crying foul when there is no one attacking you. Those of you with younger siblings probably remember this tactic from your childhood days.
What a red herring this donation to the Food & Fuel Bank is! Both sides do it, and neither party has the monopoly on charitable donations. A true philantrope makes a donation without a search for appreciation or personal gain. Maybe both sides can stop using a legitimate charity as bait to get people to attend their fundraisers.
Anyway, I can say that I for one am glad the weather held up for them.

Interesting point on donating to charity without recognition...

Too bad Cary "Shamelessly Plays the Cancer Card" Prague is completely, inescapably, incapable of that simple humility.

He might then be called a "human being" rather than a craven, ego driven politician.

The strawberries were picked here in SW (Thurs. evening) and hulled last night - I have stained hands to prove it!
The shortcake is homemade and the whipped cram fresh.
Hot air balloon rides started at 3 p.m. I believe.
I left a little while ago - kids loved the magician, band was playing - people dancing and the strawberry shortcake line was all the way around the pavilion - again bitter Dems looking at things through glasses that you cannot see through.
I also saw a couple of fair minded democratic leaders there - socializing with REPUBLICANS!!! It was great to see them there and they were smiling and having a good time - I will not reveal their names for their party may not nominate them again if they knew they were in attendance.
Great job RTC - a fun event for the entire town - a record crowd today I here - the food bank will be the beneficiary of that for sure!
What you witnessed between elected Republicans and elected Democrats tells me what I already knew as a former elected official, most council members can disagree at the table and still like and respect each other outside of the chamber. Unfortunately, many of their misguided supporters can't grasp that.

Since you quoted the person who was responding to my post I can only assume that you are grouping me in with the "misguided supporters". IF this is true I would appreciate if you would keep in mind that I have mentioned that I am not here to discuss the politics of this event. I am here simply to discuss the lack of strawberries at STRAWBERRY FEST. As a Liberal Independent I am happy to support and help with ANY event that may enhance my community, no matter who puts it on!

No Meagan, I was not referring to you. It is of no concern to me who likes the event and who does not. To me, the "misguided" are those who look for reasons to spew partisan venom amd have made it their new hobby. I don't believe that any of them are elected officials or would ever put themselves before the public and stand for election.(Or maybe they have and lost.) It is far too easy to criticize, either at public hearings or under cover of this blog. But having the responsibility to make the right decisions and finding solutions is not quite such a cake walk.

Thank you for clarifying and I do agree with you about the venom spewing and staying out of the public eye. It is far easier to sit behind your computer and complain than to do something about it.
And once again I ask anyone who is reading this to let me in on how to get a hold of the comitee who does this event so that I can hopefully bring a bit of my creativity to it and help make it an event that is even more widely enjoyed than it is now. Even though I live in East Windsor I work in South Windsor and I have a lot to share with my neighbors.

Cary doesn't do anything out of humility. He is only out for his own personal gain.

Having worked the Strawberry Fest a few times and busting my buns every time I do, I am highly insulted that a few people seems to want to nick pick the event. Now my family and myself will be running the fry dough booth this year, why not stop by and see how hard we work at this event? I know myself,I could careless which party holds the event, I enjoy it because its a TOWN efford,as do many others I know who spend DAYS ahead of and after the event to make sure the event is as good for YOU as it is for us. Let's look past this stupid where's the money is going and look at the smiles on everybody's faces? If you have a better idea for something, why not state it instead of complaining about it? I know my family and myself are always around town to listen to new ideas.Want to really help out? Why not offer to pit and clean strawberries the day before the fest? I am sure nobody's help will be turned down no matter which party you link yourself to.

Democrats are just working for the taxpayers. It is not legal to use taxpayer money to support a political party. The Chamber website was paid for with $9000 from the Town, so state law forbids advertising a Republican fundraising event using tax dollars. The Republicans are free to have an event, as long as they are not using taxpayer assets to support it. And they should just be truthful about where the bulk of the money is going: to their re-election campaign. Just try being honest with the citizens and follow the law.

Daily Horoscope for December 31

Scorpio

A loved one is very assertive under the Full Moon tonight. You'll only make it worse if you come down like a ton of bricks, given that Mars is retrograde and it's a lunar eclipse tonight. Besides, do you really want to spoil this evening's celebrations because you've had a flaming row? If possible, live and let live, so you can have a really happy New Year!
