You work for employers that strong arm you and threaten you and at that point you are so brainwashed it's the Unions fault you did not stand up for yourself.
Unions gave you the 40 hour work week, time and a half after 40 hours, safe working conditions under OSHA and the standard 8 hour work day.
You people are jealous of the pay that Union members make? It is called collective bargaining.
I went to a fundraiser last weekend for a person that broke his neck falling through a floor. He is walking again and fortunately he was not paralyzed. He is a 1099 employee and had no insurance. He told me that his biggest mistake was being arrogant and thought he knew everything so he got out of the Union he belonged to.
Unions today market their training and work together with management to provide a safe, drugfee, and harmonious work environment. The Union I belong to is one of the leaders in our area for manhours of training.
So, if you work for a business that bids against Union companies and tells you that they are problems, you might want to reconsider your brainwashed thought process. John Deere and Alcoa's most profitable shops are Union shops in the United States, not overseas. Union shops are far more productive than non union shops and get jobs done on time and under budget on state jobs all across Illinois.
Unions do not have to go. The brainwashed thought processes must though.

Ding ding ding ding....... Round 2 lol

What do either one of you hope to accomplish fighting and arguing about it? You throw insults back and forth but neither one of you have the charisma nor the leadership skills to persuade anybody to either become union or non-union. Therefore, you hurt rather then help your side of the arguement. Stop the fighting and insults and give us the pros and cons collectively. The trouble with you union guys is you fail to understand that the reason there are non-union companies is because not everybody can afford union companies. And likewise you non-union workers fail to realize the reason there are unions in the first place is because the employers will treat their employees like slaves if there isn't accountability.

I'm torn on this subject. I can see both sides of it. I've been union. I was union for 20 years and yes there are some nice perks however the company I worked for finally couldn't afford to opperate anymore because of the costs imposed on them by the unions coupled with the high taxes from the state of Illinois. Taxes that came from the very politicians that the unions "suggested" I vote for.

And on the other hand the company I worked for after I left the union payed me half on my wages that I was making with the union and there was no benefits.

If we're going to disguss this we should be discussing how to find a way to control the unions so companies can afford them and also the unions should let members make there own decisions about politics rather than using scare tactics and peer preasure to control the vote. And we should be looking for ways to reward companies for becoming union rather than punish them because they aren't.

Just my opinion gentlemen.

First unoin members should realize that the average joe does not have anything against any of the trade unions. Its the TAX PAYER FUNDED UNIONS.The 1st posters is only part correct. You need to read up on henry ford and all the companies that were Ford motor and the umbrella compaies.Half of your post was ford.He hevely influence part of the others.Fod Hated unoins. He only relented because of drumroll please.........federal government and WW2.There had been a number of strikes the first 19 months or so after 12-7-41 and the feds did not want any interuption in production. So out of being pro america ford relented.Even god himself ..FDR..warned against unionizing government employees guess he was right

I see it the unions fault that all the politicians spent way more money that was taken in and bankrupt the country. It's all the teachers, cops, and fireman wasting all that money thanks for clearing that up.

I had one hell of an experience at early voting yesterday. After I voted, I asked the lady working the table to use the restroom. She replied, "Number one or number two?" I was taken aback by that question and didn't respond so she said, "Do you have to crap or just wee?" I told her I didn't like to discuss my toilet habits with others so she showed me the room and told me to be quick because that was the only bathroom they had for all the workers and voters. I was so incensed that she asked me that question about what I was going to do, so I proceeded to spend the next twenty minutes squeezing out a giant log and didn't bother to flush. I'm sure she had one hell of a rude awakening when she went back in there but that serves her right for hassling me about my bowels. Also, I started a new tradition this year of putting that sticker they give you on my left butt cheek. It's kind of like a temporary tattoo.
