I'm so tired seeing garbage all over around TOWN. Everyday I go to work and come down First street to 129 and the garbage along the road makes me just sick. The garbage is blown into the empty lots we have a p officer but never see him out doing anything. Where is the Street dept. you never see them. Last year when they did come out to mow, instead a picking up the garbage they just mow through it, shredding everything it just looks like hell. The short cut behind the resturants the ditch has garbage in it and then somebody came out to clean the ditch, but only throw the garbage onto the ditch bank.. How lazy are you. The trees are never trimmed back nicely like they used to be coming into town on Novy rd. or Center street. Cityhall I don't think anyone knows how to trim the bushes or prune the evergreens. I was just floored when driving one day and a city truck drove around some garbage that was blown in the road. You listen to this Mayor over how he wants to clean up the town, bring in business. Who wants to come here to this garbage hole. Maybe I'll run for street dept. and that city worker would be unemployed!

LOL I wasn't saying you don't. My point was only half sarcastic. I would love to see people run for these offices that would actually take it serious. The black garbage bag was more metaphorical than an actual suggestion.

So instead of calling city hall to complain you do it here and hope something gets done? Well one thing can get done Rt 129 is a state hwy they should be taking care of it so you should call and complain to them. Also call every Braidwood resident and tell them to pick up their trash. Drive around town on Mondays when it's windy and watch everyone garbage flying around. Maybe we should teach our kids not to litter and pick up our own garbage and people like you should call the right place instead of posting on here to make hard working people look bad.

Since when does being a hard working person absolve you and lets you keep your property in a trashy condition and throwin junk wherever you choose to drop it? All the person is saying, and I 100% agree with her is this town is beginning to look like hillbilly heaven. There are homes with christmas tree lights on it that have not been taken down for 3 years, junky car's sitting in the drive ways and along side the yards. Crap in the yards that look like the remnants of a failed garage sale just left there. Piles of literal junk piled high in front or side yards with a feeble attempt to hide it with an ill fitting tarp. Yards that are so full of junk, in particular on West first street that looks like something from outer space and like its ready for nightly revival meetings. All this person is trying to say is take pride in yourself and property. Cut your grass and pick up all the crap in your yard! Get rid of it or donate it to others as you obviously are not using it for anything other than misguided lawn ornaments. If you can put up christmas lights then for Gods sake take the damn things down! Even a dump can be made presentable if kept clean and tidy. There are no acceptable reasons for the way this town looks. If an elderly person lives in a house that is not being kept up.. get off yer lazy butts and volunteer to help them. With all the bitchin about drugs in this city and uncontrollable teenagers the parents should ban together and make these kids volunteer there services to the community in picking up this garbage. This does not need to be a unified group.. as a parent take yer kids and give them consequences for thier actions! If they are kept busy doing manuel labor they will have no time to snort crap up thier nose and no money to buy it. The generations are getting lazier and lazier, they can't even wipe thier own butt anymore without Mom and Dad checkin to see if they need any help. There are ways to resolve problems in this town, you just have to be willing to put it into action by gettin off your hard working asses and work some more like most of us older folks have had to do all of our lifes. Then we wonder why home prices in this city has hit the sewer level. I am embarrased to say i live here most times. And dont say if i dont like it leave.. I would in a heart beat if I could get a decent price for my home. I however live in a neighborhood, two of which are next to me and right across the street from me that are part of the "I don't give a crap" generation and thier yards and homes have gone to hell and there is no promise of them ever cleaning it up. So don't complain you work so hard.. I am 65 and have been working very hard since the age of 14. I have not died from over work nor do I know anyone who has. Its called taking pride in things that you have worked hard for.

I have to say that the amount of trash on first st. toward 129 is quite disturbing. Where do you think it all comes from. This is not just from people throwing things out of their car windows.

In that particular yard it comes from the people who live there that think its quite allright to fill thier yard with tons of litteral crap just because they either think for some odd reason it looks nice or simply because they can. It sure saves them from having any yard work to do cuz there is no grass. I would think the City of Braidwood should address the condition of thier yard with them requesting them to clean it up period. It appears these folks are quite religious as lot of the signs make reference to this which is fine. One or two maybe huh? also to the left of the house looking at it from W. First, there are a circle of lots of plastic chairs that looks like it's ready for revival meetings or some sort. I thought you had to have permits to have gatherings of people for any given purpose. This city needs some ordinances period and then they need to be enforced!! We have a bunch of pansy ass's in City Hall that are content to sit on thier duff's and look cute. They talk the talk but don't walk the walk. If you want to be proud of the city you live in you have to work for it. There is nothing wrong with the City of Braidwood mandating what can or cannot be left in yards and what can or cannot but put into yards. Its done all over. They do it with Semi's being parked in yards or drives, so please don't tell me it can't be done. Again, things don't get done by sittin on yer butt's complaining about it. Form a citizen committee for the beautification of the city. Make it a big weekend or week long project. Give them the opportunity to clear the crap out of thier own yards. After that.. fine them if they are not in compliance! Bet me if you hit em where it hurts things would change. Parents get yer kids out there and make them volunteer and work for once in thier lifes instead of sittin gettin high or with thier hands glued to thier phones texting for hours on end.

Pearl was not so much as talking about the garbage around town but trash talking the city and city workers on what they do. My point was call the right people as to who and where the garbage is and what your saying as homeowners tell your neighbors to get off their asses and clean their own junk. Since when do we need the city to make people do things. For all people yell about wanting less government involvement in their life you all sure jump to the city doesn't do anything. So what is it? More rules and fines or we police ourselves on how the community looks?

Maybe the city could fine people who throw trash out there car windows...Like a 50.00 fine. We can call it the broken window law. We could have a community clean up day and have a city party at Jonzes with all the fine money gathered and feed some of the hungry animals at the Braidwood Zoo.

Obviously the latter of your suggestions have not worked. If only it were as easy as asking your neighbors to please clean up thier yards and throw thier junk away. Sometimes things have to be set in place for the betterment of a community. And some folks are perfecly happy to be slobs and not care about anyone or any thing. When you live inside City limits you have certain things you must abide by. If you don't want to abide by them then go live out in the country on 20 acres of land that you can junk up any ole way you want to. My point in this entire matter is that if I pay good money for my home and I respect it by keeping the property clear of junk that does not belong there, and the exterior is kept up well, what right does a neighbor who moves in have to use his yard as a dump site? He brings down the entire neighborhood and also devalues your home immensely. As my parents used to say.. there is poor and then there is poor, stupid and lazy. If you are poor and have no money.. you always have water to keep yourself, your clothes and your belongings clean. You don't even need soap, so respect yourself and your belongings enough to do just that. Keep yourself and your surrounding clean and presentable because not doing so is an insult to everyone around you. City ordanances SET IN PLACE and ENFORCED would alleviate this problem totally. There is no possible excuse for any of this period other than sheer laziness and lack of respect for anyone or anything.

Ok first to explain... There was a thread on here this morning called "happy dad". Ashley posted something inappropriate and I reported it but some overzealous administrator at topix didn't just delete the post but the entire thread. This likely means they received more than one report. Anyway I did however reply to the post before it was deleted and since I am a registered poster it was saved on my account. And since it pertains to this thread I'm posting it over here.

Ashley doesn't understand how my earlier post on this thread were fair. She says I have no right to tell others to volunteer, because she assumes that I never volunteer.
Below is my reply to you Ashley, in case you missed it.:)

Ok well first of all please remember that young kids can read this and it would be nice if they see adults who can disagree but not be ugly or use foul language. Your post will be removed however I left most of your complaint in my reply because I want people to understand what I'm replying to when they read this later. Why isn't that fair Ashley? The complaint by Pearl also stated that she should run for street dept. And I told her that I would vote for her if showed the initiative and picked up some of the garbage. Explain how that isn't fair.
