The MRGCD is showing foresight for once. Way to go. Hopefully the repairs will stop the leak and life will return to normal. Have to water those really cool weed farms I see on my bike ride.

Apparently you've never owned irrigated acreage? There's a hell of a lot more than 'weed' farms getting watered. Alfalfa, grazing lands, chili....agriculture remains a part of our culture and our enterprise in this area. Granted, the MRGCD isn't generally proactive and I'll certainly agree there.

Wonder why this crack was not repaired during the off-season when water in the canals is shutdown? Oct/Nov-Feb/Mar? Any flooding under ground and bubbling up has the potential to take the path of least resistance including under roadway. This has more potential than just flooding I would check under the roadway for any potential sink-whole errosion as well from washout.

Generally, cracks in the cement coated ditches are noticed until after water is loosed into them. Kind of hard to notice a leak until there is water flow. Not all of the arroyos have cement on them, but the ones that do are more likely to leak. As far as the road condition, that's up to the city/county, not MRGCD,

I understand your comments but disagree with the crack theory! This is a very large crack by the picture and in the video the MRGCD member said 80-to 100 feet needed to be patched up/removed to understand the extent of problem concur here will show the path taken by water.. I grew up in the South Valley and irrigated regularly for many years 10 to be exact. Back then most of the ditches and canals where not even lined with cement then this whole system has grown in leaps and bounds. Every year the ditch riders would go out (Off season water turned off just for this purpose) and clear brush and inspect ditches, and canals, shore up areas that needed it Prior to water being released. As this is a main canal much more issues when shutting it down and does affect everything southwest of this location all the feeder ditches to adobe acres the old Senator Anderson farms southwest of here and canal the runs along Isleta. This may also require fixing around ditch feeder boxes to residents property that feeds the fields. As far as a crack in cement just looking at the picture you can tell the water is going to go through a crack this size the flooded areas and yards are proof. If you have a crack in your roof do you wait to see if it leaks after it rains or fix it before it does? The MRGCD would coordinate issues with County-City-State workers if a ditch was leaking under roadway and caused an a potential washout

Oh, I see the problem now. Must be a South Valley thing, we don't seem to have those ghetto types of problems over here on the North Side.

You mean to say the MRGCD and contractors are perfect and find the leaks or don't cause them in the first place in your part of the world? Puleeeeaze. Your 'North Side' location must be somewhere outside of NM. LOL

Where did you get that out of my statement? Did I say anything about anyone being perfect? No, simply stated that the ditch runners on the North Side aren't as lazy as the ones on the South Side. Are you familiar with the system? Or are you just a vindictive wetta with an attitude?

The Hubby is watering our pasture right now, Goat. I'm very familiar with the system. How am I vindictive? You're the one with the tacky comments. For cripes sake, there was a leak, and they're going to fix it. Why is everyone here so nasty and negative? The MRGCD certainly has thier issues, and it starts with the board most days, but the ditch riders are generally just trying to do their jobs and deal with many demanding people at once.
