I said neither IS nor WAS, if you re-read my post. But I still do keep in touch with her. We had some great fun in college, but her idea of backpacking was carrying her luggage up our hotel room instead of using the bellhop, and she did not understand why I would want to go spelunking anywhere other than in our bedroom.

She went on to be a high paid financial executive/CPA who worked in the World Trade Center but was away on travel on 9/11. Now she lives in San Francisco with her husband and kids.

Perhaps she figured her "cave" was warmer then those you go down into with flashlights and other gear, to bad too as she misses out on learning to enjoy different things in life besides a hotel room.

Aren't those types of memories great and all the more so if you are lucky enough to keep in touch with the other person.

We had lots of other things in common, like a love for travelling and of good music and dancing together (ballroom and folk). I did get her out on hikes from time to time. Great memories, and I would not have wanted to have been with anyone else at that time. It's all a part of who I am today.

I am not as " callous" as you might think I am, not hard headed.

I do have feelings, I do have emotions for others, just don't always show it or in some ways depending on the issue know just how to do that. Example when someone passes away I am at a loss of words to express how I feel on that subject.

I was brought up to remember people as they were, not as they are so when one dies I remember them as they were when alive. Even if I don't know the person that is how I think.
