Years ago manufacturing located near railroads to recive & ship goods. Today the railroads don.t want to serve any industry that will not use a shipment every day.It takes' for example 11 days to get a load of cement by rail from Quebec to Auburn ME. A truck can get the same amount of cement between the two in two days or less. The taxes on inventory is also driving companies to carry less.
