HUNTINGTON, W.Va.(WSAZ)-- Three men face time in a federal prison for allegedly taking steel from a local steel plant, and then selling it at a salvage yard.

A federal grand jury in Huntington indicted William Lynd and Roger Layman, Jr., of Chesapeake, Ohio and Chris Mueller, of Huntington, on charges of conspiracy to transport stolen goods across state lines.

The indictment says the Lynd, who worked at Steel of West Virginia, gave Layman, Jr. and Mueller access to the plant where the steel was stolen.

Prosecutors say the steel was then loaded into the men’s vehicles and eventually taken to a salvage yard in Huntington where it was sold. They say this happened between January 2008 and April 2008.

The men face up to five years in a federal prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted of the thefts.

HUNTINGTON -- Federal prosecutors have charged three local men with conspiring to take at least $5,000 in steel products and selling the items at a local salvage yard.

The four-month conspiracy targeted one of their employers, Steel of West Virginia, in early 2008. The allegations were announced Thursday by the U.S. Attorney's Office.

The two-count indictment charges William E. Lynd and Roger Layman Jr., both of Chesapeake, Ohio, along with Huntington resident Chris E. Mueller.

The suspects range in age from 32 to 39.

Each was charged with conspiracy to transport stolen goods across state lines. Layman faces an additional count for actually transporting the steel from Chesapeake to Huntington.

The conspiracy took place from January 2008 to April 2008.

The indictment states Lynd worked at Steel of West Virginia. That allowed him to provide his co-conspirators access to the company, where the stolen steel would be loaded into a vehicle belonging to Layman or Mueller, court documents say.

The steel would be taken into Ohio or kept elsewhere in Huntington for storage, court documents say. It then would be sold at the undisclosed Huntington salvage yard, court documents say.

The indictment specifically charges Layman with transporting steel on Feb. 14, 2008, from Chesapeake to Huntington.

The FBI investigated the case.

Those charged face a maximum penalty of five years in prison and/or a $250,000 fine.

thats because he just got indicted, he signed his own bond to get out, now they are gonna be starting their trial very soon. And yes it is the Earl lynd that is married to Amanda, so there, Family, u cant hide his stupidity for long. Don't make him look stupid by saying it is a different Earl when it is him. His picture will be in the paper before to long. So just stop with all the ignorance.
