All stores are closing now. Word went out on a conference call to store managers today. All US stores will begin liquidation in 2 weeks.

me and the four others that work at our store are heartbroken by this decision. we were told the same 2 week schedule, and i'm now wondering if the bonuses mentioned a week ago (when we were told we have roughly 60 days) will still be in effect until the doors are locked for the last time. does anyone know what the bonus is? i'm wondering if it's just a huge discount for employees or actual cash. i would think option a would make more sense, it being more money in their wallet at the end of the day. anyone who has gone through this process, i'm very curious to know your input.

buying hollywood was obviously the iceberg for the mg titanic, but powerplay was the sharks that ate the survivors. so sad.

For part timers, it seems like we'll get paychecks as normal, but if you stay till its sunk, you'll get an additional .50/hr check for while the store was in liquidation......So if you worked 100 hrs during the liquidation, you'd see another 50 dollars.
That's gonna be a LOT of unemployment....

The parent company, Movie Gallery Inc., is completely going out of business, so every Hollywood Video, Game Crazy, and Movie Gallery that is still operating anywhere will be closing for good in the next six to ten weeks. Liquidation is set to begin in all remaining stores in roughly 12 days or so.

i think i would prefer store discounts to a few extra quarters...*sigh*

any hints on what we can expect from the liquidation people? we have no clue what the process or interaction will be like. will they come in and do an inventory, then list prices, then disappear, or are they sticking with us til the end?

i appreciate all the feedback. it's just all somewhat surreal at the moment. most of us will be fine, but my manager was very close to retirement, and this changes everything. our customers are upset. we've rented more this weekend than any other weekend since the christmas/new year boom months, and it's all the buzz in the small town we live in. sad, sad.

also, i heard someone bought out game crazy, so that should be interesting..
