I just dont think the economy around here warrents such a developement.I could be wrong....
There's more an more empty houses showing up everyday...an with the unemployment not being extended i think there is going to be even more come up empty.
So i fail to see where such a large development is going to thrive??

You buy the land the project fails as they always do and you are screwed. I hear the land at Rarity Bay is selling so well that you the tax payer will come out on top. It is a Ponzi scheme with your tax dollars and the Commissioners should know better. Google the Rarity Club, Sequatchie Point, Canyon Ridge and the Preserve at Rising Fawn. With all of these recent failures in this economy why would they allow this to proceed?

They will tell you that money will be made from tax dollars on the truck stop and the Jasper Highlands. The problem is that it will never be enough money to cover the cost or maintenance on the sewer system and our tax rates will go up to cover that cost. Itís bad business and if you ran a business this way the next thing you would see are your doors closing. The County does not have to make a profit to stay in business they just raise your taxes to cover the loss. They donít care about how much you have to pay in tax dollars just their image.

Have you not heard? The biggest thing going on in the area is buy up some mountain land for basically nothing, clean it up a little, fly over the property and anywhere else you want (so it looks like the land your buying) in your plane, put it all over the Internet, attract all the retired people that are not from the area with your marketing gimmicks, show them how cheap the lots are compared to a few years ago and todays economy, they jump on what sounds like a deal before all the lots get sold, then you (Thunder Thorton) take the money and run well sorta run I guess more like you buy MORE mountain land for a lil of nothing and do the same thing all over again. When are people gonna see what's going on here. He makes it sound good by throwing in there that it's gonna bring up to 300 jobs to Marion County haha yea right you believe that???? He's truly buttered this whole thing up once you look a lil closer into what's going on. What happened on Rarity? Didn't he line all that up then Rarity took over and Thorton was outta the picture?? Now look at that mess and what it's caused.

He keeps doing it because the idiots keep letting him. Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. Besides, it's not THEIR money at stake. They'll just write a check that WE, the taxpayers get to pony up for.

Then when it comes election time why don't y'all remember this stuff and make changes!! Quit complaining about the County Commission and the job they are doing if your not going to take a stand against them. And the same goes for the Town of Jasper..we are stale!!! We have got to get someone in here to do something for this town before we are non-existent. I know many didn't like Mayor Bowen but honestly NOTHING has been done she left office..other than the park and she had that in the works before she left. We have some of the worse city streets of any town but all they do is a little patch job that only makes it worse.

Mayor Bowen was the first one involved in the Rarity Club Project. She was all for it. I know because myself and her had a heated discussion concerning the sale of land that the T.V.A. took from people, then turned around years later and made a huge profit from it.I do agree,it is the elected officials who are at fault while the taxpayers of the County are the ones who suffer!!I live less than a mile from the Rarity Club and my taxes on my land has doubled to pay for the disaster.I am not against developement because at the time this started Nascar was looking to add another race track but the elected officials said no it wouldn't bring tax dollars into the county...Go figure?????? Look what it has done for Talledaga.Property taxes are extremely low and the police officers, emt's and county employees get paid well...

Im sure she was all for it, if it was going to bring in revenue for the county, but that area is not in the city limits so I guess again, this falls back on the County Commission ....another good idea gone bad?

Sorry but you are so wrong. If you need some new development go get you some of Rarity Club I am sure they would love to sell you a slice of that pie. The money spent to build and maintain the sewer system to these so called developments is tax payer dollars not private money. They will also be given tax breaks to develop the land so your dollar return is basically null and void. Guess who has to make up for the bad investment? Itís bad business for us and a great deal for Mr. Thornton. Only one winner in this scenario and it is not the tax payer who will have to cover the loss in the end.

The deal over on Ladd's is a mess yes and the road going up the mountain from Nickajack Landing has washed away and there are no trespassing signs on it. They knew that road wouldn't ever hold up and I guess anybody that owns land up there has to go all the way up on the other side of Sand Mtn. Dono is they ever got the water situation worked out but I don't think they ever got it out there. There are power lines going up the mountain from Nickajack Landing. Weren't the ones that started that development from Florida? The Rarity was all started by Thorton but didn't he just work the deal up and the land swap for the Rarity people then he ran and got outta the picture and now look at it? I don't think they ever got the sewer situation worked out down there but I could be wrong. Then go over to the Battle Creek area where Mike Cardin built the road up the mountain up from Sweetens Cove and was gonna build the big airport and nothing was ever finished. Go out on SP mtn to Timberlakes at Sewanee and they built a road and tried to sell lots and there are a few houses out there but don't think any have been built recently. Go on down a couple miles and Thorton built the other gated development but idk anybody that's ever been past ye gates so idk what's out there. Now how do they figure Jasper mtn will ever take off like they say? And the lots they are trying to sale right now are all in Kimball I think. Well non of that's even in the city limits, not Kimball or Jasper. I think they have planned to move on over an expand once they start selling the first lots but hopefully their plans fall through before they ruin more land and beautiful mountains we have grown up in.

All I know is that the county commissioner at the time, Hal Moss, was GIVEN a lot by rarity club. What did he do to deserve that?

It takes government intervention to spur the economy. Look how President Obama turned around Bush's economic disaster. I think we should give them tax breaks if they want to develop here. I mean look at Volkswagen. nuff said
