So by piecing together history from an old newspaper article does it appear that Herb Christie was a game warden for The Department Of Fish and Game as well as a serial rapist and murderer of teenage girls and young women? No wonder he had a boat. I find it mind boggling that none of the locals or family members reported him to the authorities and if they did that no follow up investigations were made. A woman who was tied up was seen jumping off his boat escaping kidnapping and eventual death at his hands by swimming away. This witness thought they should keep seeing that event to themself in order to protect their friend Herb Christie? Didn't the woman call the authorities about him? Where the heck was the FBI during all those years? Busy surveilling Earth First! and the pot growers? A lot of aspects seem very fishy about the life of this man and how he was able to get away with so many horrendous acts for so long. Did his DFG badge and family wealth and land ownership buy him immunity for his crimes with the powers that be? Nowadays with the internet it would be virtually impossible to cover up crimes this evil no matter how connected you were because word spreads exponentially online. Or would it? Another good reason to arm your sons and daughters with firearms and teach them how to shoot with accuracy.

Saw this on Paula Zahn last night and was amazed to find Sam Christie's obit on line and find out he died died peacefully at home at the age of 61. I agree no one knows truly how they would behave until you are in someone else's shoes, but the 1996 obit praised Sam as a god fearing commercial fisherman, granfather of 4, who had been in the lumber business with his son for 10 years before his son moved to North Carolina. Seems like both Sam and his son got to have their cake and eat it too, and pretend the past never happened. But who is to say any of us wouldn't have done the same?.
@AGrandfatherToo: Just to clarify--on Zahn's show the father is referred to as "Ernie" and the son is referred to as "Sam." Your post had me confused at first. I'm now assuming that you're referring to the death of the abusive father, "Ernie," here and not the death of his son who came forward.

Living in hell for years, Sam? Atleast the lifestyle you are conducting now is making up for lost time. Remember this, oh pitiable, downtrodden one; there is no good nor evil, merely what is right and wrong. You've chosen wrong since you began to walk. Take your lies and secrets to the grave, your antidepressants, what little conviction you have left of you. There are people who know you Sam. The false smile that curses others, the incessant need for attention for a past you have no regret for. People were hurt, you held your tongue. You're father had a pleasant funeral, you wanted that for him because of everything he showed you. Oh, and a dead man can't testify against you, too. It was all in your favor.
