Why do the government always pass cost to the consumers. Why not take across the board pay cut to cover cost. Public companies do that all the time. Is time for the government agencies to do the same. They are not exempt from what is happening.

We need to vote these clowns clear out of office. We need to get rid of George. I recently sued Duarte for allowing my neighbor, A los angeles police officer, for allowing him to construct and keep a 7 foot fence in violation of Duarte municipal code. The city sucessfully argued that that George dosnt have to enforce any code that he dosnt want to.
Drive by 1847 Delford and look at the 7 foot fence.
I am sure some remember the night that long time resedent died of a Heart attack at the council meeting where he was requesting that the council enforce their codes evenly.
The city and George wasted tax payers money fighting this. With the trial and the appeal I am sure the cost exceeded 30,000. Vote this clowncile clear out of office.

You pay little tax and expect lots of free services. You don't like it, sweep your own street.

I dont want to pay for your street sweeping either unless youre taxes are going to Duarte. So rightfully we shouldnt give a damn.

As for the increase, we Duarteans do pay very little taxes, were spoiled! I dont see paying $1.38 a month for street sweeping a big deal. I rather pay that than have the City raise our taxes.

Tell 'em you'll sweep the twelve yards of street in front of your house yourself and they can get their two bucks somewhere else!

Dude, it's not even so much the amount involved, it's the principles involved. They did an end run around the 2/3 vote required to raise or institute taxes. And that is ILLEGAL. They can and should be sued over this. I don't care how many cities may be already getting away with this kind of crap, it needs to stop.

The City actually raised our taxes with this street sweeping charge. Whatever happen to prop 218 The Right to Vote Act. Let the majority of the people vote whether they want a new tax or not. Most Cities contract their street sweeping services with 3 bids from street sweepers companies.
City of Hope doesn't use Burrtec so its not subject to this new tax but we do who uses Burrtec. What about private streets in Duarte, but uses Burrtec for trash hauling? There are more issues to be resolved than a simple creative accounting of the City Manager George and creative legal mambo jumbo by the overpaid City attorney ( almost a million dollars in legal services charged to the City).

Pretty soon the City of Duarte will charge resident a fee for Police and Fire coverage. When will this kind nonsense will stop. Every county and city will try to find a way to increase a fee (really a tax) to make up the their budget shortfall.

It's privatization of a publicly funded service. Therefore, it's better.

It appears that Councilwoman Lois Gaston simply don't understand basic math 101. Yes, we the residents do pay for street sweeping through property taxes. Having to pay twice... to Burretc directly and again paid through our property taxes?? That is twice Councilwoman. Not one.

Of course, private sector does it better than government workers.
In this case though, City of Duarte has contracted the service of another private sweeping company (Clean Street company?)and pays that company $74,000 per year up to June 30th. Now the City decided that Burrtec will do the same service for S 130,000 (because no competive bidding was made). To compound the issue, this time Burrtec will charged the residents and businesses instead of the City for $ 74,000 from general fund.

There are a lot of private companies in SGV specializing in street sweeping. Burrtec has no street sweeping trucks but will contract this service to another company without bidding too to do it for Burrtec. This situation smells fishy to me. Is this payback time by the City Council who receives tens of thousand of dollars from Burrtec in campaign contributions.

It appears that Burrtec and the Council are relying on similar arrangements being used by other cities to institute this plan. However, this specific plan clearly violates the mandates set forth under Prop 218.

Unfortunately, the DA nor any other government enforcement agency will do anything about it. The only legal remedy requires a suit to be brought by a member of the public. I suggest the citizens contact the Howard Jarvis Taxpayer Association for assistance....Jonathan Coupal or Timothy Bittle are the folks at HJTA to contact.

No forloughs at City Hall nor reduced hours like most of us. Instead a 3% salary increase next month was approved by the City Council. And then City Hall wants us to subsidize this salary increase with a double taxation on street sweeping by circumventing Prop 218 with the blessing of the City Attorney whose gets paid on tha average $ 62,000 a month. Time to look for a new City Attorney. They are a dime a dozen now in this economy and with competitive biddings, we may get a better City Attorney not inclined to scre w the residents and businesses of Duarte.

We need to watch these idiots. They have been at the public trough far to long. They simply do not have the best interest of the community at heart.
Azusa Rock granted and recorded a public easement to fish canyon falls. That was a valuable gift to the public. Duarte has done nothing to protect this public gift.

They allowed a citizen to build a 7 foot fence in violation of their duly enacted codes. Then submitted a false declaration to the court saying that Duarte building inspector measured the fence and determined that it was 6 foot . That is why Duarte has a different building inspector today. This council instead of fining this cop 100 dollars a day until he complies. They chose to spend 30,000 dollars of tax payers money to defend their actions. Then when they were awarded attorney fees and costs, they failed to pursue them.
Then this council attempted to sell out the citizens when they secretly negotiated a settlement with Vulcan. They haphazardly jeopardized the health and safety of the citizens and their families.

We need to vote these clowns clear out of office. Duarte has an abundance of talent that can do a better job. First order of business is get rid of King George. He is nothing but a peasant..Has any one noticed his pussy footing around with Council member Tzeitel Paras Caracci. At council meetings. If they donít have something going I will be surprised.

You got it right he is incompetent. He got a good 30,000 from the city to fight a code violation. The fence in question belongs to a badge flashing cop. located at 1847 Delford drive by and see for yourself. How many other citizens were allowed to have a 7 foot fence. These codes must be enforced as they are written.
