There are 9 comments on the www.whittierdailynews.com story from May 21, 2013, titled Man Who Died in Montebello Police Custody Identified. In it, www.whittierdailynews.com reports that:

A man who died while in police custody last Friday has been identified as Guillermo Pablo Cedano, 34, of Montebello, Los Angeles County Coroner Lt. Fred Corral said. The cause of death is still under investigation.

Cedano called the police around midnight on Friday requesting medical help at his house on the 1000 block of Carob Way, officials said. It is unclear what type of medical problem he was experiencing. Cedano was tased by one police officer an unknown amount of times, Lt. Holly Francisco of Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide Bureau said. Cedano was unarmed at the time of the incident and police did not use batons to subdue him.

"He was hostile. They restrained him. While restrained, he became unconscious," he said. An officer suffered a fractured right wrist during the scuffle and was released from the hospital that same day. No other injuries were reported, Lt. Francisco said. Cedano had been arrested four different times in the past for battery on a peace officer, obstructing justice, being under the influence, and disturbing the peace, Francisco said.

Gil had a lot of BIG problems in both his personal AND professional life. I don't think any of those arrests or drug use references in the story were less than 15 years old. If he was using again, it was very recent.

His school had a wake for him, but many of his friends didn't know about it until afterwards.

Gil, I hope you have found the peace and happiness again that you had for so many years in the past.

I only met Gil a couple of times when he was at his last school site. He always seemed to be aware of his students' problems and showed real compassion and understanding.

I only saw him smiling and calm, and will remember him like that.

In my opinion, it would cause problems for students, teachers, and administrators to reveal his school location. Those who need to know know where it is.

I appoligize for asking that and your right. The reason I asked was because I read the 2 articles. Any person that dies in police custody is serious. A 37 year old man doesnt just die. Thousands of people have altercations with the police and dont die. I found the one article interesting
as the quotes came from the coroner that he was stunned an unknown amount of times. I asked around and nobody remembers hearing about montebello
ever having a death of somebody they arrested. I hope the family seeks some legal advice but better yet gets the answers to why this happened. It remindes me of when orange county police killed that transient. Nobody said a word for a month, now there are officers in court.

Peace is right. Something went terribly wrong. I hope the family will take a stand, request an investigation and fight for this injustice.

Interesting information being talked about around the community. The alleged officer who allegedly punched Gil during the medical 911 call wasn’t even wearing a uniform. Also the alleged officer possibly has a history of being heavy handed.

I guess when that tee shirt that was handed out at the council meeting over a year ago referring to Montebello police team 4 tazing somebody has come true.

Shame on you city council. You had an opportunity to end the bad leadership in the police department and you did nothing. Maybe another Kelly Thomas case again. Sounds like another lawsuit on its way at min.
