Lately, Town Council Chairman Gino Sund has been asking everyone the same question: How do you hold an election if there aren't any challengers? Eight seats are up for election on the 16-seat council June 5, but there still weren't any challengers who had turned in their applications by Thursday afternoon.

TOO SAD FOR WORDS
I had the priviledge to particpate in the formation of the original Altadena Town Council. Everyone knew that it would be little more than a community asssociation lacking any real power and relegated to an adjunct advisory committee to the Boards of Supervisor's Fifth District. The real pupose of the town council was to serve as a prophylactic measure against repeated attempts by Pasadena to annex Altadena into its tax base. This in-turn spawned repeated proposals by Altadena to incorporate - all wisely rejected.
For most of its history, Supervisor Mike Antonovich has played the part of the benevolent godfather and - despite a spate of ruined reputations for those who opposed his support for developers - generally tried to follow the recommendations submitted by the town council.
That said and the issue of independence aside -after all these years, it would be too sad for words were the town council to dissolve because of community apathy and risk the loss of what little influence and control it now possess over Altadena's affairs.
Don't become just another tax-unit for the City of Pasadena - GET OUT AND VOTE!
Yeah well vote for WHAT sweet pea? The town council is the front man for all the real estate and developer's interests in Altadena. Anyone who has attempted to change that culture gets thrown off the council. The bylaws allow it.

Sadly due to the manner in which the ATC has been run of late the most capable residents do not run. Term limits are the solution for the ATC.. When the people are truly represented, the ATC does serve a worthy function. But the point about the Supe supporting the developers is dead on and it caused deep wounds in the community. I say clean house and get on with new bodies that do the job and don't cave to pressure.. Sund and his cronies must go.

It really doesn't matter who is on the town council. The cronies have the county's ear whether they are on or off the council. The council has no legal powers anyway.

I was thinking the same thing - maybe people are happy with their current slate of representatives. I have no complaints about mine.
Who on earth could LaFarge be, I wonder? LOL
Also, Michele Zack's name is spelled wrong. One "l".
I can't imagine how you would know. However, think De Farge.

I will sort those idiots out. I'm not done with Ken the catcher yet either. Blow is gone isn't he?

I served on the Altadena Town Council for 19 years. I worked hard to make of it an institution, something the realtors and Not For Profit representatives and Country Clubbers were against. No matter what the community wanted, those folks always got their way. They either brutally silenced their critics and the people speaking for the community, or when that failed they just had secret meetings with the Supervisor.

When members of their club failed to get re elected it didn't matter, they still went to the meetings advising the supervisor, were appointed to committees over seated members and were copied on all ATC communications for YEARS after they were out of office while other past members were not.

What Altadena really needs is true honest home rule. Cityhood and the application of State and Federal law over Altadena's governance. Now it's just a town of gangsterism.

But as to who would want to be associated with Altadena, it still is like stepping back in time and living in California before it was totally mucked up. I now know again, after spending two years not involved how wonderful and blissful living here is. Being involved if you are not a realtor, Country Clubber or Not for Profit lotus eater is hell.

They all just need to be slapped around a bit by Deb Bowen (CA Secretary of State). She'll get on it sooner or later. Brown is useless.

Must be that the Town Council Members are doing a great job. Certainly it could not be Apathy in Altadena that reigns supreme. Keep up the good work and keep Altadena Safe and Sanitary with few restrictions on our basic freedoms.
Supervisor Mike Antonovich is by far the best we have ever had and under his leadership we are contented citizens in a most glorious area of the world.
MUAH MUAH MUAH to the Town Council and keep those real estate referrals coming!!!
