Altadena town council ponders the possibility of an election withou...

Full story: Pasadena Star-News

Lately, Town Council Chairman Gino Sund has been asking everyone the same question: How do you hold an election if there aren't any challengers? Eight seats are up for election on the 16-seat council June 5, but there still weren't any challengers who had turned in their applications by Thursday afternoon.

Does this mean that the good citizens of Altadena are very happy with the Town Council and their representatives? Or it could mean something else?

The whole Town Counsel thing is a farce. Sund himself is a farce. He tried to take the tennis courts away from the school for his pathetic buddies at the Country Club. He parks in handicapped spots, the little worm thinks very highly of himself where as much of the rest of the community see him as chunky vomit. Of course no one will run. What person in his or her right mind would want to be associated with such monumental stupidity? Add to all that any person who successfully ran would have to suffer the stink and filth of the corruption of the County Supervisors and their crooked developer friends. They would be witness to the sad ineptness of the County employees; the wheeling and dealing and bribing and extorting. The only thing good about the clown council is at least you know where the worst of the bums are one night a month so you can go out to dinner and expect you wouldn’t run into one of them thus spoiling your appetite. I only wish Balder was still on the Clown Counsel so I would know when it might be safe to be out at dinner without running the risk of losing my cookies.
Herbert Simmons brought enthusiasm and energy to the counsel and look what they did to him. They crucified him for a minor and correctable mistake. The counsel is selective about who gets to get away with infractions. The Counsel is really little more than a tool for local crooked developers and realtors and serves no useful function for the community. In fact, it has shown to be counterproductive to the people it is supposed to serve.

I was thinking the same thing - maybe people are happy with their current slate of representatives. I have no complaints about mine.

Who on earth could LaFarge be, I wonder? LOL

Also, Michele Zack's name is spelled wrong. One "l".

They exposed themselves with the sham of charges against Simmons- I know several people who wanted to run but now want nothing to do with it.

Altadena is a beautiful town with wonderful people except for the few bozos that commandeered the Clown Counsel. What they did to that fine young man Herbert Simmons makes me sick.

LaFarge. Think DeFarge only she died. Same idea though.

I agree... have you seen how dirty the town homes next to the Blockbuster (on Lake and Sacramento street) are? The residents have no homeowner association and their overgrown bushes and trees have made it a nice area for city wildlife (coyotes, raccoons, skunks, etc.) There is even a homeless man that keeps his vehicles (yes many vehicles) there along with his work truck (scrap metal collector). Some one should clean it up before it gets worse.

Must be that the Town Council Members are doing a great job. Certainly it could not be Apathy in Altadena that reigns supreme. Keep up the good work and keep Altadena Safe and Sanitary with few restrictions on our basic freedoms.
Supervisor Mike Antonovich is by far the best we have ever had and under his leadership we are contented citizens in a most glorious area of the world.

If I knew no one was running I might have. I haven't been happy with my representation. Some meetings my rep doesn't even show up. We have a few looming issues at present:

1. The (lack of) response of the fire department and media in the face of last year's fire

2. A rash of burglaries

3. Trash collection

4. Parking enforcement

None of these are huge issues, but nonetheless they affect our quality of life.

Antonovich is a criminal.

It is nice that Rosey Blow is gone. What a useless puke he was.

Ha Ha Ha @ Michele Zack. That lady still doesn't get it. People don't care because the Altadena Town Council is a non-governmental organization with no legal powers and no legal responsibilities to its so called constituents. In other words, it's a SHAM and USELESS!!!

MicheLLe! Who cares! What are you, her secretary?

Also, you should read up on local government. The town council reps have no legal powers and no legal responsibilities to the people who elected them. In other words, no legal requirement to be ACCOUNTABLE!

YOU are 100% RIGHT ON! The problem is the town council has a bunch of cheerleaders in the community who are downright BLIND and IGNORANT!

The town council is a club and out of 43,000 residents, the PSN always quotes the same people, including Michele Zack or Gino Sund. This is why no one cares.

TOO SAD FOR WORDS

I had the priviledge to particpate in the formation of the original Altadena Town Council. Everyone knew that it would be little more than a community asssociation lacking any real power and relegated to an adjunct advisory committee to the Boards of Supervisor's Fifth District. The real pupose of the town council was to serve as a prophylactic measure against repeated attempts by Pasadena to annex Altadena into its tax base. This in-turn spawned repeated proposals by Altadena to incorporate - all wisely rejected.

For most of its history, Supervisor Mike Antonovich has played the part of the benevolent godfather and - despite a spate of ruined reputations for those who opposed his support for developers - generally tried to follow the recommendations submitted by the town council.

That said and the issue of independence aside -after all these years, it would be too sad for words were the town council to dissolve because of community apathy and risk the loss of what little influence and control it now possess over Altadena's affairs.

Don't become just another tax-unit for the City of Pasadena - GET OUT AND VOTE!
