I suspect if someone stands up and challenges the law on constitutional grounds it will be overturned.

As for the woman in the article, how sad would it be if her child was killed by her drunk driving next door neighbor. Can't find those on the map, huh?

The logic behind this law would also allow me to ban anyone from working for my company who has failed to pay a parking ticket, or was convicted of prostitution, or for anything I decide has the unlikely POTENTIAL of creating what might, just possibly, maybe, perhaps, be an unsafe environment.

Marissa, I think you're missing something.Over 96% of registered sex offenders have already been incarcerated.If sex offenders can't live in our communities,A) where should they live? and B) what makes them any worse than murderers, spousal abusers, repeat-offending drug sellers(who, by the way, probably don't ask for ID when selling drugs to minors) or drunk drivers??? I was under the impression that upon completion of a prison sentence, one's debt to society was paid...Do you have any clue of how much money is wasted tracking people who have already served their time? As long as people like you believe the lies told by the government, they will continue fooling you into thinking you and your family are safe...

Having dealt with a number of sex offenders myself, I can tell you that NO ONE will help them on this matter. It seems that the media (and politicians)focus on the small majority of these people that do re-offend, or simply misreport stories with no clarifying follow-up story. And, in the case at hand, a group of people that have done nothing wrong except for live within a MILE of a school. Try finding somewhere to live in LI?NYC that ISN"T within a mile of a school.

Oh no! There's a sex offender living next to me who's working 3 jobs just to pay his rent! What will I ever do? Get real. They're tax paying citizens of the US who are equally protected under the law. They've been incarcerated and served out their sentences. Stop whining. Besides...I'd be more afraid of the people that are UNKNOWN sex offenders.

PS - I really enjoy the use of the word "Liberal" as an insult. If you really want to get technical about the political spectrum. This room is filled with facists and communists.
Left = Liberal = Communist.
Right = Conservative = Facist.

On the corner of New York Avenue and Depot Road is a Day Care Center. Just around the corner, not even 500-feet on Depot Road is where the town permitted a day-laborer site where illegals can gather to get work.

"The sex offender legislation passed by the town last year restricts level 2 and 3 sex offenders from living within 1,320 feet of a school, park, licensed day care center, playground or day camp churches, synagogues and mosques."

You should be much more concerned with teachers, clergy, and family friends that COULD be sex offenders without your knowledge."Keeping Huntington safe from sex offenders"? Rose, you need protection from grandstanding victimizing politicians. And btw- Spitzer will be a registered sex offender-wonder where he'll live?
I agree that we should be concerned about people who "could" be sex offenders. Just like we should be concerned about anyone that could endanger our lives or the lives of our kids. That's why we take precautionary measures when we do things- i.e. wear seat belts in cars to help keep us safe, not walk alone at night in certain places, etc. However, nothing is foolproof. But it's better than nothing. If a large majority oppose this law or want to amend it(and it seems so from the last 30 posts), then they can't sit here and complain. We are the ones who elected these officials to "take care" of us. And if you don't like who was elected, then come next term, do some campaigning for the candidate you do want in office. That's why we have the freedom to vote. If you don't do anything, you can't complain. If you aren't happy with the laws, then complain to your lawmakers. Just remember, that they are just like us and make mistakes too.(But I'm definitely not excusing people who act like Spitzer or Spitzer himself). And if you think someone thinks they can do a better job, then they can run for office.

While i commend the board for taking action on the dispicable actions of Sex Offenders. I do worry about what the board is actually doing for huntington? The town is being over-run by illegal immigrants and these board members turn their cheek cause there is an overwhelming need for action with DOING NOTHING being the status so far! Honestly Huntington needs to step it up, be serious and stop pretending everything is ok. ITS NOT!

What does "illegal" immigration have to do with displacement of sex offenders? I'm not really seeing the parallel there.

The ability to solve a sex crime or any crime for that matter using investigative or forensic techniques exists because the perpetrator leaves some trace that leads back to him or her.

With no record of an illegal's existence in this country, how could a crime committed by one be solved? There is no database to check; no medical records; no birth place/certificate; no history of their even being IN this country. So how could a crime be solved?

Oh YES IT IS!

When there is a law on the books that prohibits convicted sex offenders to reside within X-feet of a school, day care center, etc... yet these worthless politicians permit a day laborer site for illegal immigrants to set up camp within 500-feet of one (a day care center in this case), it IS an issue AND it IS (or at the very least, SHOULD BE) a concern.

It portrays a level of incompetence on the part of our worthless politicians (legislators) that is apparently beyond your understanding since you fail to make the connection.

Instead of kicking these lawbreakers out of the country, these worthless politicians (legislators) embrace them and welcome them with open arms. In doing so, it creates a 'snowball effect' as it relates to cost that is incurred upon YOU, ME, and every tax paying citizen of the U.S. FORGET ABOUT how it relates to the possibility of never being able to solve a crime that one might commit.

An illegal could rape your daughter (if you have one), jet back to their country of origin, and you (and your daughter) would never see justice served because the perpetrator is, essentially, anonymous.

Still think it is Wonderful and a non-issue?

You're going on a tangent. I didn't say it was a "NON-ISSUE." I said that it WASN'T THE ISSUE AT HAND. Not an issue is not the same as not the issue at hand. What I was saying is that this is a debate about what should be happening to convicted sex offenders after they've done their time. Illegal immigrants don't factor into the mix. Comprede?

The irony of it is what you fail to see. Hence the chosen nic *Ironically*. "Comprede?"

Out one side of their mouths, these worthless, do-nothings bang the drum of choice - the drum that sounds the loudest while out the other, ignore, or in this case, embrace another potentially dangerous issue that DOES RELATE to the issue at hand.

Your failure to make the connection doesn't surprise me in the least.
