So murderers and rapists are not tracked, but guys who had sex with a 16 year old girlfriend when he was 17 (90% of "sex offenders") are stigmatized for life. And people are panicked about this. How dumb.

The ages of 17/ 16 is not illegal. Correct ages are:

Less than 11-1st degree
Age 18, with less than 13-1st degree
Age 18, with less than 15-2nd degree
Age 21, with less than 16-3rd degree.

Third degree also involved those who are incapable of consenting; prisoner, hospitalized patient, etc.

There's also proscribed defenses involved that make other acts legal if the underage consenters are within 4 or 5 years of age of one another. The charges are serious because they've been well thought out compared to someone simply guessing.

I hope one of her neighbors accuses her of a sex crime and she gets a label.

Pathetic. Another attempt at grandstanding on the backs of those that no one will stand up for,the Sex Offenders. The ones LEAST likely to molest a child, the ones that have already been convicted.BTW, SPITZER will soon be on the list...

Thank you - but the point is an 18 year old having sex with a 16 year old should not be a crime with a life time punishment; either none of them should or we should keep a listing of al murderers and rapists as well. This is double standard.
Did you read what he wrote? An 18 year old is punished if he has sex with someone who is younger than 15. Last I checked, 16 was higher than 15.

Second question: aren't rapists included in "sex offenders"? Last I checked, they were.

I applaud Stu Besen's efforts to keep Huntington one of the best places to live on Long Island. Huntington was voted as an All-American City and the resident's would like to keep it that way. Keeping Huntington safe from sex offenders shouldn't be a problem for anyone! However, if you want the legislation to include murderers, then voice your opinions to your lawmakers. Maybe that is a good idea and should be explored further. But let's not do away with laws that help protect us and our children. Let's find ways to make the laws fair and that make us happy and safe.
Also, before you comment about the laws, you should do your research and find out what the laws exactly entail. A person who is a level 1 (unlikely to be a repeat offender- i.e. someone who was convicted of statutory rape) doesn't apply to the "sensitive areas" of Huntington. The details of the penal code can be found here: http://criminaljustice.state.ny.us/nsor/sorta...

Kudos to Stu Besen and thank you.

Why not spray the accused house with Silly String? This way we can easily identify them. How about the TOH start working on the homes with illegal apartments? Homes packed with illegal aliens? We moved out five years ago from our home of 30 years because we were watching a beautiful town just falls to the reign of liberal inaction.

Sex offenders are sex offenders. Track them all. I hope they start doing this where I live in the Town of Brookhaven also. Then they can see all the clusters that Social Services and Section 8 are creating and clean the areas up more.

Sewx Offenders are also TAXPAYERS, and these laws violate their constitutional rights. So Besen has evicted 6 people that have already paid their debt to society;I wonder how he would do against an opponent that could fight back...btw, read the posts-most people see thru the bs...

You should be much more concerned with teachers, clergy, and family friends that COULD be sex offenders without your knowledge."Keeping Huntington safe from sex offenders"? Rose, you need protection from grandstanding victimizing politicians. And btw- Spitzer will be a registered sex offender-wonder where he'll live?

A map??? I'm sorry, is that some new technology that the town wasn't familiar with before? And exactly how much money is this "new technology" going to cost us? Get real, do your jobs and stop bragging about it!

THEY SHOULD ALL BE PUT IN JAIL....WHY ON EARTH CAN SEX OFFENDERS LIVE IN OUR COMMUNITIES!!!! I'D RATHER PAY TAXES FOR OFFENDERS TO BE PUT IN JAIL THAN FOR THEM TO LIVE ON WELFARE IN OUR COMMUNITIES. THE NATION NEEDS TO COME TOGETHER AND PUT SEX OFFENDERS IN JAIL FOR GOOD!!!!!
