I was talking in generalities. In my experience teen drivers are somewhat careless. Slowing down in the rain is the prudent thing to do. Better home late than not at all.

Lost control because he was following speed limits and driving carefully ... right.

From today's Newsday...

http://www.newsday.com/news/local/nassau/ny-l...

"Auto accidents are the leading killer of teenagers in America, statistics show. Every 19 seconds, a driver between the ages of 15 and 20 is involved in a police-reported collision."

And may I add, stay off the cell phone when driving. Even hands free units are distracting.

I hear that all the time. My teenager is a good kid. My teenager is responsible. And so on. And I am sure they really are. But one little distration whil etraveling 30/40/50 mph could have grave consequences.

While I do feel their parents and family, that tree just didnt grow in the way of the car at that minute. Most parents deny responsibility as they are in denial.

Walk in my shoes and you will soon realize what a serious problem this has become. Try volunteering at your local hospital or MADD chapter for just one month. We can talk then.

The only way to lose control is by speeding, texting, gabbing on the cell, leaning way over to play with the radio, or having a stroke.

Family of teen driver, Not Saying and Ted Striker are right on.

One more point. The posted speed limit should only be adheared to when the driver is coherent, the car is in good condition (ex: the tires are not bald), the road is dry and during the daytime.

In other words, when the road is wet, snowy, icy, grooved, pot holed, slow down.

At night, with headlight glare, limited sight distances, slow down.

If the driver is tired, upset, distracted, or if the car's tires are bald, windshield is dirty, slow down.

I really dont know what else to tell you other than hug your teen driver often and cherish every moment when they arrive home from work, school, dinner or shopping, safely. They'll get the point.
