My family has lived in Blue Island for a long time. When we moved here Kline's was the place to go for anything and everything. Joe's True Value Hardware was the place to go for any part - with free delivery! Calumet Paint would also deliver without charge. The Homestead was Lthe place to be" for great ribs and hamburgers. You could walk down Western and be warmly greeted by passer's by and shop owners. St. Francis hospital was going strong. New families were moving into town and renovating properties and downtown business buildings.

Alas, over the years Blue Island has steadily declined, businesses closed, businesses moving to other states, vacant store fronts, dirty windows, littered sidewalks, fewer new businesses, fewer community events, fewer jobs, families moving to more prosperous areas, increased crime, broken curbs, cracked sidewalks, streets full of pot-holes, on and on ...

On April 9th we have an opportunity to elect new leadership to guide Blue Island forward ...to forge the teamwork needed to overcome years of neglect ...to embrace our community in finding solutions to fix Blue Island's many problems. It can be done!

Alan Stevo, has devoted his life to Blue Island - as a lifetime resident, a former alderman, a voice of the people at city council meetings. Proven leadership. Proven passion. Leading a team with fresh ideas ... Energy ...and commitment to improve our town and restore it to its once grand luster. To bring jobs back to Blue Island. To attract new businesses. To lead an ethical government.

Have you met Alan or his team? If not take some time to stop in his campaign headquarters and visit. You'll be glad you did!

We're voting for Alan on April 9th. A new day ...a new hope for Blue Island and ALL the people!

You got a great comedy act there...you should take it on the road.
I've been here as well as my family for several generations. Yes I agree that the Coalition party has been a dismal failure. But Allan Stevo is not the answer. He's egotistical, arrogant and full of himself. It is well known in my area that the guy has been a joke for several elections. He was like that in school and has not changed. His ex-wife will verify that. His temper and inflexibility will cause stagnation and rancor in the City Council. I've talked to several sitting members of the City Council and they have confirmed what I suspect will happen if Mr. Stevo is voted in. Nothing will be accomplished. This town can not have that now.
I find Mr. Vargas refreshing and intelligent. I met him at a coffee meet some weeks ago. It was a pleasurable and illuminating experience. His ideas and imagination are outside the norm. His integrity is unassailed and his honesty is without question. Those here who have cast disrespect on the man are outright biased and heinous. I will do the utmost to help Mr. Vargas and will talk to my neighbors and friends about voting him in.
Mr. Brown is also not needed. His actions of late are questionable.

Seriously, folks who have been on the council for many years only know how to rubber stamp. They have become incapable of forming an original sentence or thought, thinking, questioning and educating themselves about nothing.

Domingo is the coalition party. Your whole post is one contradiction after another.......stagnation and rancor? Pleasurable and illuminating? Ideas and imagination.......biased and heinous .....are you out of your mind?

Your post screams very much like a desperate child who tattletales.Never thought Alan Stevo is such a grave threat that you have to resort to this.Your personal attacks are so pathetic you may have ran out of arguments,if any, to throw at him. You sound like you were still in high school with your childish rants. Most of the people he knew from high school are not in Blue Island anymore and he knows who are left who would do this to him that you have to mention innocent private citizen not involved in this campaign. You must know that the untainted Domingo Vargas that you are boasting about, himself has an ex-wife but, should we involve her too? Hell No!Leave them alone!.Your post is pretty much a smear. The ones concerned went beyond that already! Get over it!Or are you mad because your candidate's signs were removed, stuck on a related property without permission?

If running in elections as a civic duty and giving opposition to the party in power so they have to explain their positions to the voters and not have a free ride running unopposed, is a joke to you, then yes, you can call him that.

If, attending council meetings, standing up for the people asking questions and solutions year after year, courageously and passionately, despite repeated insults and humiliating attacks from the very people who's supposed to serve him courteously and unselfishly as a resident, is a joke to you then by all means, if it gives you so much pleasure, call him that.

But please, 27 years of doing nothing on Vargas' part, and call him refreshing? Now that's a joke! How about stale.. hmm

(Does not have enough time right now) However, just between you and me, can you tell me what kind of pleasure did you get from him? You said about a pleasurable experience- how was it? Can you illuminate us on that one?

Moreover, did he illuminate to you how he failed stand up for his own Ward let alone speak up for his own people all these years? Now,that's outside the norm for an educated, intelligent person you claim him to be!

My Two Cents in response to BITaxpayer
Huntington, IN

You posted in defense of your candidate, so let me have that opportunity as well to defend mine:

If I donít know the name, Allan J. Stevo, or if I donít know his family from several decades ago, or, if my only source in knowing who he is as a person, is from what they say about him here on Topix, add to that all the not so secret petty buzz around town from those who oppose his political views, Iíd immediately say who is this guy? I will say he is a complete stranger to me because the person being described is not the person I knew then and even as of late. Needless to say, I'm very disappointed with all the lies I heard and read about him and how mean the political climate in Blue Island has become these days. Is it just the sign of the times, or should I just go with the flow? No way! Be that as it may, I can assure everyone, he is not the person his detractors are maliciously portraying him to be. He is a good person and I thank him for staying true to himself. I know he is comfortable with who he is. He is strong willed, goal oriented, passionate about his principles and heíll follow thru on whatever goals he set himself up to do.
Although those immature creatures who speak ill of him think they have may won their silly little battles and boosted their gigantic, troubled egos with instant gratification for hurting him in a desperate attempt to dampen his resolve, there's solace in knowing he still has the upper hand, because even though he did not prevail in quite a few races in the past, no one can tell him he was wrong in his perceptions of his political adversaries. He pointed out during his past campaigns and even at present that the best interests of Blue Island and its residents were not being honorably served at all times. No one has proven him wrong on what he was saying all along these past several years: just look around you - closed bridges, empty store fronts, unpaved streets, garbage dumps, the eyesore vacant lots, the sky high debts, bloated feasibility studies and planning commissions all funded by taxpayers, sweetheart deals, corruption, cronyism and so much more. What have the powers that be done for Blue Island to prove he is wrong? Nothing satisfactory to say the least!

To be fair on the other hand, this administration, may have tried their best cards, itís just that their moves were greatly overshadowed by the cloud of improprieties after another. So, because Vargas is part of this administration, Vargas and company will just be the continuation of the same MO.

I pity your situation dude. It must be real hard to defend your candidate that you resort to throw the dirtiest tactic you can use . You are probably incapable of coining a sensible word or two, much less a paragraph with some thoughts in it to argue the other person's opinions. Since you are aware about the locations tactics, you must be using it liberally. And just because you are using those dirty tactics, you accuse others of doing it too! How shallow! When you use personal attacks or sneaky tactics, you only negate your credibility and rationality.
