Went to Hoover and then Schrum. Knew Kazmirski and the Stockles and a Sutton. Mark Walker died when I was a Freshman at North. Ever go to Burnham Liquors or party at the forest preserves at night near Embers restaurant?

I too grew up in the Gold Coast area, the CCFD would open the Hydrants and flood Hoover Schools grassy area and we had a place to ice skate, same thing at Finneran Park. Sidkeys, Schrum Pickles, Polish at Misch Foods. My wife grew up by OLK and worked at Jack in the Box. Greasy deep fried Tacos that were the best after being out at Wampum Lake. Btw that grassy field driving range was Portz Farm. After they drained Brick Lake we rode our dirtbikes in there and climbed out. Myself, Sutton, Lackey, Kann, Milguard, Kazmirski, Orr, Bitunjac, Stockle(RIP), Wangerson, we ripped up River Oaks Golf Course. OK who unbolted the Com-Ed tower that fell into Holy Cross Cemetary?? And lit the Trestle on fire??

We lived in Lansing in the 40s and 50s. Went to TF and have never had better pizza than at Joh's Pizzaria in Calumet City.

We swam every summer day in Green Lake.

Yes I heard she passed away. Her brother Father Angel was my father's age. I remember going to his wake at St. Andrews Church. My father said he was an angel. Your mother was very nice, she was the secretary in the fire department. You must know Patty Hintz then. My condolences.

I remember going swimming in Green Lake in the late 50's as I recall. It was before the Mall was built.

THE MALL
I bought an engagement ring for my first wife at the Sears store there in later years. Lived in Markham and Dixmoor years later and then to Vietnam and back. Stayed in California until today

Sears is closing in River Oaks. Major sale to get rid of everything. The tallest building in the mall with the top of it white and illuminated at night is going to be torn down.

I recall an accident my parents talked about away from my ears (I was very young)and not old enough to read the newspaper.

A woman and her children were leaving river oaks and their car slid across rt.6 on ice.
It was winter and prior to having gaurd rails along the lake. I think they all died.

Had to be 1965-1968 era...
Anyone remember this?

I'm trying to remember the name of the drive-in type restaurant near TF North. We would often get in trouble for going 'off-campus' to eat lunch there. It had roast beef sandwiches, hot dogs, burgers, fries and these rolled up taquito things that were pizza rolls. I thought it was Mike's but I'm not sure. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm a Gold Coast girl too! Lived across from Bozo Hot Dogs on the corner of Hirsch and River Oaks Drive. I went to Hoover [1-6], Schrum [7-8] and TF North [9-12].

I lived directly behind Ciatsko Brothers, Sidkey's Grocery and Embers Restaurant. I used to often play in that field at the end of my block that so many people have referred to previously. It was by a small forest where bodies were often discovered after the first spring thaw. Ah, the memories.

Folks, my reputation has been questioned by some people I know. I told them about a mexican restaurant on Burnham Ave. sometime in the late 80's or 90's that was shut down when health inspectors discovered-and this is no joke-Cat carcasses in their freezer. I can't remember the name of the place. Any help would GREATLY restore my rep. Thanks.

Glad I left this hell hole, ASAP. Looking back all the "white" folk who lived there are STILL racist, homophobic assholes who never grew up nor evolved. Only one person had the cajones to be real. That man was Randall Bong. If you know him, you know what I mean. If you don't know him. Too bad for you, cause Randy's the real deal. Every single one of our pet were mowed down on Burnham Ave. Our Pet Cemetery in the back yard was pitiful. Eventually we stopped wanting any animals for fear of yet another roadkill. Schrum School & TF North sucked total balls. Hope Dean Jerry Munda died (or dies) a most, horrible, painful and above all CRUEL death. He was a bastard. Nothing but ghosts and decay of my once upon a time. Calumet City deserves itself. Never going back to the Nightmare BEFORE what locals let the place become. One more time for good measure: Fuck you Jerry Munda. Rot in Hell Pigbeest.

Dude, you really have to let go of the past! Harboring that kind of bitterness only destroys You, not anyone else.

I hope you are enjoying your new life elsewhere much more than the old days in Cal City.
