I was treated very badly by a female paramedic. She was very mean and could care less how I felt. She kept demanding information from me while I was barely conscious. And got madder and madder at me when I couldn't answer her. They were so rough when they brought the stretcher out of my house that they broke the front door.

I think the folks that work for Buds are trashy. I really hope I dont need an ambulance any time soon. Something about them just rubs me the wrong way, I dont know if its the way the carry themselves or seeing them parked in the back of empty parking lots with there feet up in the windows smoking cigs. It could just be me or maybe they just do to many drugs, or maybe I do?

Is this the company that Midlothian has a contract with? Do they follow the items in the contract? I heard that they really messed up this weekend on a call or 2. Does anybody have any information on this matter, or is the village board keeping everything quiet?

We have 2 fully outfitted ambulances in the Fire Dept. We also have numerous Paramedics on staff, along with firemen in Paramedic school don't we.

I guess what I am leading up to is Why doesn't the village board let our firemen do what they have trained for? Why can't our Fire Dept. finish the medical calls themselves and transport to the hospitals? Why put the residents safety in a private companies hands?

Did a little checking, turns out the village pays Buds $36000 plus per year to have ambulances available to be on scene within 6 minutes of the call.

Sounds like a reasonable amount of time to respond? Well let me tell you the big problem. On Saturday the 20th of this month it close to 15 minutes to get them to the scene on the west side of town.

In that 15 minutes wait for our contracted ambulance unfortunately the village resident passed on. If our Fire Department would be allowed to transport the resident would have had been transported ASAP they may have still been with us. Later on Saturday night there was another incident on the East side of town. The private ambulance assigned to this area was tied up on a call in Robbins. Again the private company dispatched a unit from out of the area.Luckly the ambulance that was tied up in Robbins cleared their call and responded to Midlothian.

The private ambulance company that Midlothian has a contract with, also covers the towns of Robbins, Markham, Harvey,Pheonix. It has been who calls first gets the unit kept in the area. Everybody else has to wait for them to get another unit free.

My question is Why won't Midlothian vote on letting our Fire Department Transport to local Hospitals. I've been told it is a money issue. Mainly the village doesn't have it. One of the residents has offered to cover the start up costs. The village board keeps looking the other way. They are either to proud or to stupid to let this happen

Stop it GONZO. It is very clear in your statement you are a Midlothian firefighter trying to better secure your job. That is fine but just be honest. You have to much intimate knowledge not to be. And please please please do not come back and tell us you have a friend on the department, you know someone on the department or whatever other lame excuse you may come up with. The Midlothian firefighters are very educated in HIPPA and know what the proper avenues are for citizens inquiring about ambulance call.
Furthermore unless you are a coroner it is only your opinion that the person who expired “may” still be with us. The “may” have stilled died had a paramedic ambulance ben on the scene in 1 minute and started care.
And lastly, show up at a village board meeting and tell the elected official’s what you know and demand answers. That is where you get the correct answers and not someone who knows someone who heard something and told you. In addition you would have the elected officials on record and can hold them to it.

Posting on Topix will get ZERO action. If you are as passionate as you want everyone to believe you are it is time to step up to the plate and execute your civic duty and take action. Stop with the lame excuses and waiting for someone else to do your dirty work. Now go get em.

I live in Midlothian and think he is right on. Truth hurts Mr Fireman. We dont even need a full time fire department. Look around. Crestwood, Tinley Park, Evergreen Park, Posen handle all of their calls with part time personnel. All of the departments with the exception of Posen run way more calls then Midlothian does. So who now needs to STFU why of course it is you. You already knew that though didn't you?

If you only have experience with Bud's you might not think they are that bad. You have nothing to compare to. I have unfortunately had to use them as we'll as Trace, Country Club Hills and Oak Forest. I believe there is a difference in the level of service and professionalism I received from the municipal departments. Plus both of their response times were around 4 minutes where the subcontracted companies were almost twice that. If someone is offering to pay the start up costs, I wonder why they don't look into it. People are already paid to be on duty. There are going to be more ambulance than fire calls. They could bill for the service like the other towns do. Isn't there also some kind of rating that is better for a town if they have their own department? I remember hearing about it a while back. I believe it can save money but I don't recall how. Maybe if that other person is a fireman he knows what it is. It's a ? Rating, I can't remember.

The midlothian FD will be transporting soon, the fireman are being trained as paramedics and will get a substational bump in pay for doing so.

Midlothian has the most useless bunch of people on their department who could never handle the duty of being a medic. They can barely handle basic calls let alone anything good.

Wow really!! I'm a paramedic for Buds ambulance you see us sitting in parking lots because we have nowhere else to go we don't have a fire department to sit at we don't even have clean bathrooms to use. You think we are trashy you should really think twice you have no idea what we deal with day in day out for less money then the cook at white castles .. The next time u think we are trashy for smoking or have our feet up think about we may have had a bad call like a pediatric full arrest , or a heart attack that just died right before our eyes or a crazy husband that beat his wife to death or a mother who killed her baby . You have no clue .. Trashy we may be , but we do a job most can't ..
