Blue Island ia a diverse community and the city council should reflect our the make-up of the community - BUT each member should be qualified and have a common focus ...improving the quality of our community ...regardless of ethnic or religious affiliation.
We need leaders that understand this and are committed to Blue Island ..not to their party or to fattening their pensions!
Judge each on their record and experience and we, as voters and residents, must hold them ACCOUNTABLE!
Don't just blame the Mayor for our current condition - also look at the Progressive party!
Vote for the new and improved Bot Party!

The mayor introduced referendum number two, at the council meeting 12.11.12, without prior discussion in the council to place Home Rule on the April 2013 ballot.
Home Rule was defeated in every precinct in every ward in Blue Island, which should have sent a very clear message to the council.

Home Rule, JAWA, and All of the candidates who support these harmful endeavors to Blue Island should be defeated on election day April 9, 2013.

Wow, the mayor drove a wooden stake and put silver bullet through the hearts of his loyal supporters; with his home rule referendum.

Ok we all agree that Domingo Vargas has issues. But to hear an angry white woman going through menopause & posing as the leader of the Hispanic group called "CASA" is nothing short of ludicrous. But besides that, let's look at who may run for Mayor.
1/ Ray Cantello>Narcissistic, self absorbed ego maniac who envisions himself as the next "Boss" of Blue Island. His attitude to Blacks & Hispanics is disturbing & having a lackey in Josh Tate more so. Even Bobby Rita has distanced himself from these 2 morons.
2/ Mike Jenko> His heart is in the right place but it may not let him even get past the first crisis. He claims his health is good..but honestly Mike? Be truthful for a change. Blue Island needs a mayor who has excellent health both physically & mentally. Driving around town in your Vette doesn't show me anything.
3/ Alan Stevo> This guy can't keep a lid on his temper even if his life depended on it. His shoot from the hip mouth will open up Blue island to more civil lawsuits than a high end law firm could handle. He will not be able to get a consensus together in the City Council. And that means stagnation. He his vilified in the Hispanic community and is a joke in the Black community. This town can't have that.
4/ Anybody else> Won't even waste the bandwidth.

Has Rita distanced himself from Ray or has Ray distanced himself from Rita? It's nice to hear the opinion of someone who feels close enough to these candidates to express such insight. Too bad your not close enough to even learn how to correctly spell the candidates name let alone know attitudes or what vehicles they drive or who is going through menopause. You really need to get either a life or job.

Most of the actions of the mayor and the council have been quite detrimental over the past four years. Home Rule is the final straw that broke the camel's back.

The vote was tabled and was sent to the judiciary committee where it will be discussed at the Jan 2nd meeting. Hopefully it will die in committee.

And whose butt are your lips glued to. Judging from what I read of your response I'd hazard to guess it's Ray's. Who put you up to this...Josh Tate? Pretty sad that Ray is already feeling a little heat over a blog site.

Ray declined Rita's offer and is NOT running for Mayor. That's how Vargas got aligned with Rita's ticket.

Unlike you I am an independent thinker who had addressed several of you rants other than Rays. It seems to me the fact that you chose to focus on my comment about Cantello(that's how you know him) and no one else tells me you are using this forum for some personal vendetta. It's small minded people like yourself who can't put personal issues aside for the betterment of Blue Island. It's attitudes like yours that will keep blue island for rising out if the ashes. The people you mentioned may not be perfect but they have a true passion for the town. If you got your whatever out of Rita's you may be able to actually become an independent thinker; but I doubt it.

. IF we are to save Blue Island WE the voters must hold elected officials accountable - and that means voting out those officials that have demonstrated that they are not serving the best interest of our community.

WE need to demand that anyone running for office be able to demonstrate their leadership and commitment to serve ALL of our fair community - NOT a selected few or power group, aka RITA.

The Progressive party has been anything but from this voter's perspective ...anyone affiliated with this party will not get my families support ...likewise anyone affiliated with the RITA party will not get our support.

That will leave some slim pickin's in April - I hope those expressing opinions on this Forum will consider stepping up to actively support this community !

I actually agree with you. I might be leaving my vote for Mayor and 1st ward blank this election since Vargas & Hawley (for alderman) lined themselves up with Rita. Stevo and Brown will not get my vote either. Does anyone know who Rita is putting up for Park Board elections?

. I can understand this being a prime opportunity for Rita to make the play for BI - but I would hope the Vargas team sees his support for what it is - a power grab with the expectation that his people will call the shots. I don't know Stevo - but maybe the time is right to get someone in office that is passionate about our town and the quality of life here ?! He certainly has no affiliation to or respect of the Progressive party as I understand it ?

Repeatedly we have witnessed the majority of the current aldermen giving their vote to the mayor and failing to represent their wards with their vote. Most aldermen have no working knowledge of the issues they are going along with the mayor on.
City Hall has been plagued with failure, numerous health, alcohol, and substance abuse issues. Those currently in office and up for election are responsible for Blue Island's current condition and should not be elected to any position(s).
