Suburban Cook 2013 Elections...Domingo Vargas of the Independent Party of Blue Island is running for mayor – with the backing of the Calumet Township Democratic Organization – to succeed long-time GOP Mayor Don Peloquin, who, in his 2012 congressional against U.S. Rep. Bobby Rush, won less than 30% of the vote in Blue Island. Democrat Tommy Brown is looking to challenge Vargas… Meanwhile, Calumet Township Democrats have ousted Township Assessor Seth McCormick, replacing him on the ticket with Township Clerk Fred Bilotto...

How can you be independent and be backed by the Calumet Township Democratic Organization? Then to top it off he is running against Democrat Tommy Brown.

For those with limited intelligence, like you it would be puzzling wouldn't? So let me explain something to you for free that I would normally charge for.
1/ Tommy Brow is a flunky stooge for the south side Democratic Cook County/Chicago Machine.
2/ Domingo Vargas has a multicultural, multiparty organization helped by Bobby Rita's friends.
It has no ties to the Calumet Township organization other some from that outfit who want to see something better for the town.
3/ Alan Stevo is getting help from the same GOP outfit that tried to help Peloquin. Figure that one out!

The Lincoln Effect: Are we taking advantage of Honest Abe’s good name?
From car commercials to an imagined third Chicago airport, Lincoln’s aura proves irresistible.
February 22, 2013
This month many Americans celebrated what would have been the 124th birthday of Abraham Lincoln.
But if recent popular culture is any indication, our 16th president is still alive and well.
Here’s an example.
In 2004, Donald Peloquin, the longtime Mayor of Blue Island, tried to get a bunch of southwest suburban municipalities to actually secede from Cook County.
He and his band of rebels thought Cook was too big, too wasteful, and neglecting suburban taxpayers.
So they wanted to break off and create a new county. To help sell this controversial idea, he decided to call it Lincoln.
I asked Peloquin why, and he told me the answer was simple.
“The State’s motto is the land of Lincoln. And there’s no Lincoln County. 103 counties and not one of them named Lincoln”.
So naming his county Lincoln would help people get on board with the idea?
“Well, I...yeah sure, partially,” Peloquin said “But the big thing is the credibility and the honesty and integrity that go with the name”. He added,“I think the ability to say we’re going to start a new county and create it on the basis of what Lincoln promised and that’d be honest and truthful government”.
Peloquin’s secession bid was a non-starter. But another effort he supports, which also has a Lincoln connection, is still up in the air.
Stevo it is.

The good people of Blue Island are smarter than you give them credit! Tommy Brown 2009 election, behind the scenes campaign manager, was Republican Committeeman from the 19th ward of Chicago Mr. James Parrilli. Mr. Parilli is also a political operative for Blue Island city attorney Burt Odelson. Domingo Vargas is receiving help from the Progressive Party headed by Mayor Peloquin, City Clerk Pam Frasor, who by the way are so called Republicans. He is also receiving help from Calumet Township Democrat Committeeman Bob Rita. Mr. Vargas is trying to confuse the voters with the name of his party The Blue Island Independent Party. Mr. Domingo Vargas and his running mates are lying to the residents. There is nothing Independent about them. Alderman Domingo Vargas, and City Treasurer Carmine Billotto must be held accountable for the terrible financial condition the city is in. This misfeasance of office, has led to the decline of Blue Island. They do not deserve your vote of confidence.

Cook County Sheriff offers hope for Robbins
By Phil Kadner [email protected] February 20, 2013 11:02PM
Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart makes a statement during the town hall meeting at the Robbins Community Center in Robbins, IL on Tuesday February 19, 2013.| Matt Marton~Sun-Times Media
Updated: February 21, 2013 4:05PM
An angry Wanda Hampton shouted that Robbins police had yet to solve the murder a year ago of her 21-year-old son, Dwayne Robinson, who was shot in front of her home.
“This town’s not over 10 blocks long, and we can’t solve a murder,” Hampton said.
Clantcha Miller, 69, said she told Robbins police repeatedly that her grandchildren had broken into “seven or eight” homes in the neighborhood and “nothing happened until they were caught breaking into a store in Midlothian.”
Hampton and Miller were just two of about 75 Robbins residents at a town hall meeting Tuesday night to hear that a new sheriff was in town.
That’s Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart, who announced at a news conference at the Robbins Community Center an hour earlier that his department had discovered 51 unprocessed rape kits in the village police department’s evidence room.
There was also a “barrel of guns,” confiscated by Robbins police officers but never sent to the feds to check for links to other crimes, Dart said.
“Those guns were just dumped in a barrel,” he told me.“There must have been about 50 handguns. And there were shotguns and other guns lined up nearby.”
Dart’s office is primarily responsible for patrolling unincorporated areas of Cook County. But the role of the sheriff’s police has expanded over the years because of criminal conduct by some suburban police departments (such as Ford Heights) and budget cuts in other towns.
Dart contends that the state law creating his office gives him leeway to swoop in and protect the public wherever there’s criminal activity in Cook County.
“It’s like the law was written for a sheriff in the Old West,” he said.
Sheriff’s police provide evidence technicians for about 60 suburbs that can no longer afford to hire their specialists. The department also has a gang unit that, through a sophisticated tracking technology, keeps close tabs on street gang activity in the suburbs, Dart said.
The sheriff will now provide a patrol car and support services to Robbins, although Dart indicated to Robbins citizens that his department will offer them a wide range of law enforcement assistance.
Even before the announcement Tuesday, Dart said his officers had made about 160 arrests in Robbins during 2012, an extraordinary number for a suburb that has its own police force.
At the town hall meeting, he heard numerous senior citizens complain of home burglaries by local teenagers. Most of the residents said that when they called police, they were told there was a point system that prevented Robbins police from arresting juveniles.
Dart said that while the Cook County state’s attorney’s office has a point system for determining what type of crime qualifies a teenager for juvenile detention,“a crime is a crime” and minors who break the law should be charged.
More than one senior citizen warned that if police officials didn’t act soon, the residents would take matters into their hands.
“They just don’t have the money to fund the police department the people here deserve,” Dart told me.
“It’s mostly a part-time police department.”
Robbins police Cmdr. Christian Daigre said the department has four full-time administrative officers and 50 part-time patrol officers.
Former Police Chief Johnny Holmes resigned in December after he was charged with drunken driving for the second time in three years. An interim police chief has taken his place.

Wrong for our children wrong for Blue Island clerk.

The political world in BI is not different than that in other municipalities - alliances, coalitions, time in office, working across party lines, family relationships, supporting or not supporting issues, etc. Are all part of the political reality.

My heartburn and that of many is the blatant lack of honesty by the political party's in seeking my votes. "Independent" - really?

While I commend those willing to take on the leadership of our community it appears there is more self-serving interest than that of serving our community, addressing the issues, and building on a vision.

Those coming into power will be taking on a huge, stinking, rotten mess. Our town, thanks to the Progressive/Coalition party is sliding backward - while the politico's are walking away unscathed. That is wrong.

We won't be fooled again. We will be voting for candidates that have a demonstrated commitment to serve our town - and not to further their own political grandisement.

Keep the light of truth shining!

Secession from Democratic Crook County was not a bad idea - they suck us dry fincially and do not provide services. Secession was a novel idea and naming it after Lincoln was fitting. Too bad it didn't pass. Secession is not such a far out idea ...expect to hear more states looking at seceding from the US as the Obama administration moves us closer and closer to socialism. God Bless America - we all need to stand up for what our forefathers fought and died for!

Had the outgoing mayor dedicated that energy, effort, and time to Blue Island what might Blue Island have looked like instead?

How sad he and his advisors never considered requiring those who approached him with their zany ideas to "prove" them before he allowed himself to become overly enthusiastic.
