I just checked this information out. How can we approach the district with this? I see addresses for him in BI as well as Scottsdale. I know he missed a couple board meetings. His wife works in the district....wait.....is he running to protect his wife's job? Lots of questions here. This is what I found.......copy and paste.

There is no.way he should sit on the board when he really doesnt even live in BI. What a mess. No wonder our schools are in shambles.

Do not vote for.someone who doesnt even live here.

So....it's not ok to have a second home? Maybe a vacation place or one bought for retirement? When you hear hoofbeats it's more likely to be horses than zebras.

Everyone knows he lives and works in Arizona! Does he think we are all idiots?? Why hasn't that school board demanded his resignation. I think the state's attorney office should be contacted! No wonder our town gets this reputation. We bring it on ourselves!

All Blue Island schools place in the bottom half of rankings by Greatschools.org -- between 3 and 5 out of a possible 10 at each school. This is obviously bad news for the children and their families, and it is also bad news for everyone who owns a home in Blue Island because these rankings affect property values. Doesn't it seem that our school board should be FULLY engaged in working to improve our schools? Admittedly, I don't know much about how the school board works, but I'm not sure I can see how it is to our benefit to have a member who lives 1000 miles away.

You should go to a board meeting and ask Mr. Lauk how his restructuring plan is working, he gets paid a boat full of money and has yet to prove himself? Mr.Cheversia is a good man and will speak up about these issues, only to get shot down by other Lauk board supporters. As far as I am concerned, the Cheversia family home is here and they pay their taxes like the rest of us in Blue Island. Many people have to travel for their jobs. Hmmmm, you seem to have a problem with someone who has to go where the work is to continue to provide for their family, times are still hard. If you want to improve the quality of this district, think about replacing the Lauk supporters, getting a new superintendent with someone who will care about the kids academics and willing to work with the ENTIRE board, not just the ones that will agree with everything they do. Steve knows how the school board is ran and has the experience, only his hands are tied because of the over priced superintendent.

Sorry 130 Board...but we are depending on Alice to fillin Steve on when he is necessary? I guess that will be when its time to negotiate the teacher aides contract? Any conflict there? My neighbor is one of those aides. She is really ticked off about the missing union funds.

And Lost...you really are lost in space! I do go to the board metings and I can see that you won't let FACTS get in the way of your small mindedness. Look at the state tests. It was just reported at a board meeting that they are the highest in the districts hstory and above state average. Hmmm...something must be working...

1. We can pick 4 board members out of 7
2. Mr.Cheversia is still in the top 4
3. Do you know what is happening in the schools, ask a teacher?
4. Our district lost several lawsuits. Why..
5. Why is Kerr still have lowest test scores?

I checked the web site that has all the test scores. Kerr's scores went UP after restructuring and cleaning out the dead wood. I don;t know why they just moved around the problems. Should have got rid of them instead! Thats my complante. Beginning teachers have the fresh ideas and energy and it worked! I'm voting for Mike, Lynne, Tiffany and Adele. Did anyone notice that this Board doesnt reflect the community racial make up?????? Get your FACTS straight. You sound like an idiot when you just make them up.

Facts: All schools must have passed at a 85% No Child Left Behind Threshold rate for Reading and Math in 2012

Paul Revere Intermediate: 65.1% for reading 84.6% Math (not too bad for math)
Not passing AYP 3rd year watch.

Veterans: 79.8% for reading not passing AYP in reading
1 year early warning.

Whittier: 67.9% for reading, 81.9% for Math (not too bad)
Not passing AYP 4th year academic watch

Kerr: 78.3% reading, 80% Math
Not passing AYP 5th year academic watch

Nathan Hale Intermediate: Reading 73.8%
Not passing AYP 1st year academic warning

Nathan Hale Middle: Passing AYP

Note: These thresholds will increase to 92.5% for 2013 and 100% for 2014. If I am so "Lost in Space", why do we have more schools on academic watch and warnings in the last few years? Other than Nathan Hale Middle it seems to be getting worse. How are these scores above State averages this district rates as 504 out of the 775 Illinois Districts.

Simple. Go to the correct results.

http://iirc.niu.edu/District.aspx...

Click on ALL TESTS. Consistent steady growth and for the first time ever the district has exceeded the state average.

Next...do a comparison based on poverty rate for some real eye opening results.

You are looking at a graph based on the whole District, of course Nathan Hale Middle will bring up the district's total scores. Click on schools in districts to see each individual school's progress in the district and you will see that the only school that meets or exceeds the 85% threshold for 2012 is Nathan Hale Middle School. If you have a child at Kerr, click on Kerr and you can see their progress, if you want to go by Illinois State averages instead of the 85% State mandated 2012 threshold, you will see that Kerr is at 78% meets or exceeds where as the average for the state is at 82% meets or exceeds. The 78% for Kerr in 2012 is a fall from the 81% meets or exceeds from 2011 for Kerr. This might be ok if you send a child to Nathan Hale Middle or you own a home in Crestwood however if you live in Blue Island or send your child to one of these other schools in the District it is not so good. All the children in the district deserve better and again we pay the administrator a lot of money.
