U.S. Attorney: Ex-Dixon comptroller to plead guilty
Former Dixon comptroller Rita Crundwell plans to plead guilty Wednesday to a federal fraud charge that alleges she siphoned more than $53 million from the small northwestern Illinois citys coffers, according to the U.S. Attorney's office.
The office released a statement saying Crundwell will change her plea to guilty at a hearing Wednesday morning before U.S. District Judge Philip G. Reinhard in federal court in Rockford.
It was unclear from the release how Crundwells guilty plea to the federal charge will impact separate state charges she faces for the same wrongdoing. She also faces 60 counts of theft tied to her alleged embezzlement from the city's accounts.
Crundwell is accused of stealing the money over two decades and using it to sustain a lavish lifestyle and a nationally renowned horse-breeding operation.
Federal authorities have auctioned off about 400 horses and a luxury motor home that Crundwell allegedly bought with the stolen city funds. If Crundwell is convicted, much of the money will be returned to Dixon after the federal government takes its cut for caring for the horses for months.
Could this happen in Blue Island? Did this happen in Blue Island?

No and No.

Treasure Carmine Biloto must be voted out. All he did was lie to the residents that suported him, and the gang four years ago. The joke is he took leave from the Democratic party to run on the Republican party (Progressive Party Ticket). And The Democratic Committeeman still Loves him! So go and figure.

We are shocked, how many pensions does he need? They are a greedy bunch, take all they can, and to hell with the residents.

Living high on neighbors' dime.

I agree. That's the Democratic way.

I guess a man does what a man has to do! There have been events over the past several years that have made the Billotto's vulnerable. There were special favors bestowed upon them at the expense of others! So you see they must pay up in one form or another! At the expense of every resident of Blue Island.

What did the council do with the money allocated for the bridges?
Mr. Carmine Billotto permitted the closing of the bridges. He failed us as Alderman, and as City Treasurer. He must be voted out of office based on this malfeasance. and nonfeasance.

THERE WAS NO MONEY FOR THE BRIDGES! WAKE UP! PUT DOWN THE JOINT, SHUT YOUR MOUTH AND PAY ATTENTION. There NEVER WAS A FUND TO MAINTAIN THE BRIDGES. NEVER. Carmine Bilotto may be allot of things but he is no MIDAS or Auric Goldfinger. He can not conjure up money from nothing.
The past 2 mayors knew full well about this problem...so did BOBBY RITA and our Senators and our Congressional Reps. You think they cared? Ask them also where is the money? They know where the skeletons in the closet came from.

Living in B. I., I pay for roads and bridges according to my property tax bill. Why doesn't someone from our local officials explain to us where is this money going to? Blue Island needs to be more aggressive, this is not happpening, unless someone is doing something but we need to know so maybe we can help as well.
#14 Nov 16, 2012
Have you ever bothered YOURSELF to see where it goes? It goes into the coffers of COOK COUNTY... they in turn disperse it to the townships, villages & towns. So somewhere down the line somebody is siphoning off money...you think about it. Your State taxes are gong to pay off the huge debt the State W for.orkers Pension is raping the tax payers. Ask Bobby Rita if you can get a hold of him or Bobby Rush, if he even thinks you are worthy to talk too.
#15 Nov 16, 2012
When are the city officials of Blue Island going to invite or call Rita or Rush to attend or get a written statemet from them in order to inform them of the conditions of the bridges and what are their solution to get this situation settle. These representative need to represent this community,
#16 Nov 16, 2012
To bad Rita has secured 85% of the funding. It's on the city now.
Thanks for playing though.

The Shell Game is exactly what has been going on at city hall with taxpayer dollars.
Time for these elected officials in office to take responsibility for their actions or lack there of.
#18 Nov 16, 2012
It is called appropriations/city budget for starters. City hall, the mayor, treasurer, finance director, finance chair, streets and sanitation, engineering consultant; all failed their due diligence.
#19 Nov 17, 2012
Especially former Alderman-City Treasurer Carmine Billoto, Alderman Vierya, and the entire city administration who decided to turn their heads the other way, and ignore this major safety problem. This is negligence pure and simple. Carmine must be voted out April 2013. And all those associated with him.
#20 Nov 17, 2012
Carmine, the Mayor and Rita have known for years that the bridges were bad and failed to create a fund to maintain them. I am very confused as to where our tax dollars have gone over the years??? They certainly haven't gone back into maintaining the city's infrastructure!!! Carmine, can you tell us? I believe this is the promise you ran your last campaign on....
