http://www.lacountycleanwater.org/files/manag ... Urgent notice to LA county property owners:
What you don't know can hurt you...and soon. It's arriving under the lofty title, "Clean Water, Clean Beaches Measure." Who doesn't want clean water and clean beaches? But this measure is two steps away from adding a huge new yearly tax charge to all LA county property owners, some in the range of an additional $10,000.00 to $30,000.00. This is for real.
During December, a tri-fold flyer (designed to appear as junk mail during the pre-Christmas junk mail onslaught) was mailed to most property owners in Los Angeles County by the Los Angeles County Flood Control District. Of course, this benign flyer was thrown away by most people. But the flyer shows your proposed "Clean water fee" to be added to your tax bill each year and it had a section to cut out and mail in if you object to the measure. The people of LA deserve to be fairly notified and given a fair chance to raise concerns about the consequences of this outrageous financial burden. Nevertheless, any objections MUST BE IN by Monday, January 15th.
The leaflet also gives notice of a hearing at 9:30 AM Tuesday, January 15, 2013 held by the Board of Supervisors of LA County at 500 West Temple Street. Anyone who can make it should be there to show their disapproval of this measure. Written objections can be turned in at that time.
The notice states: "If the Board of Supervisors has not received written protests against the proposed fee by a MAJORITY of property owners before the end of the public hearing, the Board of Supervisors may authorize an election to approve the fee."
The secretive manner in which this was done has been well-thought out for a long time to get approval without owners being fairly notified of such an enormous new charge to every property owner. This would bring in billions to the county without even a specific use of these funds, but simply for a general purpose
If the mailer was misplaced or tossed, a new mailer may be requested by calling (800) 218-0018 or emailing [email protected] You can also protest this measure by letting the County Supervisors know you oppose this proposed new tax by sending a short letter to the County Supervisors that you “protest” the proposed new Clean Water tax. Address your note to the Executive Officer, Board of Supervisors, P.O. Box 866006, Los Angeles, CA 90086, or hand deliver to Executive Officer, Board of Supervisors, Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration, Room 383, 500 West Temple Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012.(For your written letter to be counted as a protest it must “include the Assessor’s Parcel Number and parcel address, be signed by the property owner or an authorized representative and be delivered no later than the end of the public hearing.”)
Thank you for your concern. Please pass this on to everyone you can. The only way to stop this is by working together and taking instant actio
