GreenEarth® Cleaners brings breath of fresh air to South Elgin

Dry cleaners offers environmentally safe, odorless drycleaning, drive-up service

For consumers who depend on their dry cleaner to keep them looking neat, clean and well pressed, there’s good news. GreenEarth Cleaners, a new family-owned dry cleaning business in South Elgin, is offering environmentally friendly dry cleaning services. GreenEarth’s revolutionary cleaning system is not only better for the environment; it’s better for clothes—noticeably better. It’s one of many refreshing changes owners Bob Linville and Tom Mesi are planning for their customers. Drive-through service, 24-hour drop-box and after-hours locker access are some of the amenities that put the store in a class by itself.

Unlike traditional drycleaners, which use “perc” or perchloroethylene, a petroleum-based solvent, the GreenEarth process uses no hazardous chemicals. It cleans with pure liquid silicone, in essence liquefied sand, the same gentle, natural product used in many personal care products and shampoos. With GreenEarth, there is nothing to dirty the air, contaminate the soil or pollute the water.

Tom and Bob’s decision to install the environmentally-safe system puts them years ahead of the rest of the industry. Eighty-five percent of dry cleaners still use perc, the industry standard solvent since the 1950’s, classified by the EPA as a toxic air contaminant and a possible to probable human carcinogen.“Once we found there was an environmentally-safe alternative, we didn’t hesitate to make the investment. We know our customers will appreciate the difference it makes—not just for the environment, but also for their clothes.”

One of the most noticeable differences with the GreenEarth process is the lack of that telltale “dry cleaning” odor. The benefit to clothes is also tangible.“With GreenEarth, garments just look and feel better,” said Bob.“They are softer, with more body; colors are brighter and whites whiter.” GreenEarth’s gentle process means that GreenEarth Cleaner’s customers can now dry clean special garments with absolutely no worry about dye-bleeding or damage to delicate beads and trim.

Tom and Bob also plan to treat their customers as special as they do their clothes. Convenience and attention to detail will be their focus. The store will offer services that cater to the busy lifestyle of South Elgin residents, like at-your-car valet service; an express box for 24-hour drop off service and lockers for after-hours customer pick up.

With its sustainable concrete floors, recycled and recyclable packaging and cutting-edge technologies to lower the carbon footprint of their cleaning machines, GreenEarth Cleaners at 478 S. Randall Road in South Elgin is “green” in every respect. As they open the door to a whole new kind of dry cleaning that is better for the earth, better for clothes, and better for customers, owners Bob Linville and Tom Mesi have a lot to feel good about.
