Cities always threaten , using police and fire services to scare people. Funny, I wonder how much money those people working for the city make? I bet it is over $100 thousand dollars a year! And the poor people living in poverty just voted in another tax for themselves! Next time you vote, go ask grandma, she will explain things to you.

Ah yes. I fought to have this being voted out. I posted everything I could on South El Monte's Facebook about the 10% increase in pay the Council to the car allowance they receive every month.

I got slamed on the facebook because I was telling truth? There are trully stupid people living in South El Monte.

Now it's time to campaign a boycott not to shop in the city.....

I was hoping the Residents would not pass this so call measure. You know what the kicker is? The Council Members of South El Monte just gave themselves a 10% pay raise increase. It was in the Tribune last week. It was on the 4th page in the corner. How convenient. I will not be shopping in South El Monte anymore. Crooks!!!

Yep, and they raised the Sewer Rates. SEM Residents are stupid. They live in poverty and they voted to raise the sales tax on themselves! How dumb......

You know what I will do? I'll make the city pay for some of my gardber who cuts their lawn every two weeks!

Unbelievable that the residents vote against themselves in an election. Do you realize how much money our council spends on consultants, trips, credit card, paying for schooling and we pay because they have to cut services. We are suckers!!! I will not spend any money in this city I live in I will include it in the cities such as Pico Rivera, El Monte and now SEM where my hard earned money will not be spent. Absolutely pathetic.

well the council of south el monte wins again. not only are they taking more of the residents money while they work hard to get it all they do is seat on there a**es while they are getting all these allowances and take from everyone else. way to go council members in south el monte. by the way they still havent turned the books over to see where the money is going and being spent. they should investigate every city and cut the pay the council gets. then maybe we wouldnt be in the situation we are in.

what a bunch of a**holes, i mean come on they live in south el monte, they know how everyone is struggling, and they sit there acting like they want to better the city and want to help everyone. i have an idea why dont the council members help the residents by taking a pay cut that will make everyone belive that you are wanting what is best for the city. i guess it just wishful thinking.

'Familiar with all the crooked politicians there in SEM, they love to prey on their most vulnerable Senior Citizens, with scare tactics to confuse them into thinking they have to vote for this or that. They go speak to them in spanish at their sr. center & freak them out, swindling & coniving the weekest ones. SEM residents need to wake up & smell the champurrado(a latin drink)before this once nice community ends up like Bell & Maywood. All the2nd & 3rd generation SEMontenians need to wise up, if you're all gonna still live at home with your parents then you all need to go vote for the better good of your community,'cause the few residents that actually go vote don't even know they're being ripped off. Its so very sad, voting to pay more for your basic necessities, as it is, most SEM residents just barely get by,& SEM council lives like wanna-be Don Corleones.

it's true all these People who voted for the 1/2 ¢ were "bamboozled" and Shame on the City into tricking the People about what would be affected by the loss of revenue.
we are being Taxed twice on the sewer tax

1.we are being hit with a 33.00 sewer tax.
2.1/2 ¢ on the new tax increase to help repair and up keep our sewer system.

Wow! So many terrible comments.

What all of you fail to understand is that 62% of registered voters voted in favor of this.

That is what democracy is about. Majority rule.

If all of you who have posted here on this blog are so upset, then just move.

I might be reading into this a little to much, but it seems that all these comments are coming from one or two people.

Sour grapes.

If all of these people were opposed to the tax, why didn't any of you come to my home and try to convince me to vote NO? I never received any information from anyone as to why I should vote NO.

All the comments posted here are aimed at individual members of the city council. Sounds very personal to me. This is part of the reason why people are so turned off by negativty.

I suggest in the future, that anyone of you who have posted comments here, actually show up and try and convince voters to vote other wise.

All your negative comments on the city facebook led me and my family to vote YES on R.

May the city move forward.

It wouldn't of mattered if I went to your house because the City council has you brain washed.

and if you were smart and pay attention to the South El Monte News Letter you would of picked up on there scam.

it reads

What programs and services are at risk?

The General Fund is the City’s largest operating fund and has historically funded services like" maintaining sheriff’s deputiesand 911 emergency response services;"

this is something that is part of the contract when south el monte agreed to the services provided by temple city sheriff's.

anti-gang and anti-drug enforcement programs; senior services including health screen-ings,transportation and meals on wheels;

they already get federal grants for these programs and from the State.

youth programs that keep kids away from crime and drugs;

what they men't to say is "Youth programs that keep the mayors family employed!!"

maintaining local parks;repairing local parks and streets; and maintaining storm drains toprevent toxic runoff.

Toxic run off, really!! how many times in the past 30 years have we had TOXIC RUN OFF !!
maintaining parks and repair streets ? isn't that part of the city's general runding
how many parks does south el monte have ? they only had a 10 employee lay-off, Wow now they can re hire those lazy M0fo's

Future funding of these services is uncertain given the City’s budget crisis.Without additional revenue, city services may have to be cut even further. What cuts has the City made already to deal with the budget crisis?Over the past twoyears, the City has already cut $1.6 millionin city services from its General Fund, eliminated staff (down22%),delayed projects, reduced various city services and imple-mented strict cost controls.

so what they are saying is that before they would spend money un-wisely shouldn't they have strict cost control implemented at all times ?
