Mining protesters arrested outside governors office

Seven opponents of mountaintop-removal mining were arrested Monday afternoon when they staged a sit-in outside Gov.

WV economy IS MINING!!!! Miner's without jobs= less revenue for Walmart, Sears, Penneys, Logans, McDonald's, EVERY OTHER FREAKIN' BUSINESS= those other businesses laying off employees...Wake up people!!! Are you protesting the DOH for "destroying our landscape and air quality" when they build and repair roads? Are you protesting the new landowner clearing off a mountain to build his house or business? Do you protest God when there is an earthquake??? Are you protesting yourself for using your electricity that COAL provides, or how about when you pollute water by simply using it? There is still a plethora of mountains and forests in WV, and there will continue to be. Grow up and spend your time fighting for a REAL cause!!!!

I know the jobs are important, but enough mountaintop removal has taken place. Several months ago my wife and I were out for a Sunday drive. We drove out the road past the Mt. Olive prison. There's a strip mine out there. The scope of the destruction is astonishing - you have to see it to believe it. There has to be a better way.

I have to agree with omg on this one. WVA is overtop a tremendous amount of coal, more than most states and some see it as a blessing while others look at it as a curse but the United States needs this coal and it has to be mined with whatever method is most feasible and profitable and I believe if coal wasn't made for us to use either it wouldn't have been there or we would never have gotten the technolgy to extract it. The tribes sat on coal deposits for eons of time and didn't even know it was there and the few that did, did not care about it. Coal is important to the economy of WVA and it will be extracted. Coal is needful to the American way of life and it will be extracted. Bottom line is someone must get the lead out in the EPA and sign those 33 papers lying on their desk for the mining permits for WVA. That's where our focus needs not to be, not on the methods of extraction but why is it not being extracted. Come on Kmart, Walmart and all these other businesses in WVA. Help in this cause. This is causing you loss of revenue.

The land, the people, and the environment is the sacrifice to the coal barons for a few temporary jobs. The Governor referred to us as an extractive State, and I would like to extract him and ship him to Alaska. If I have anything to do with it he will never hold another elective office in this State. The way this man sucks up to the coal operators is a crying shame. Where did the people down here in the coal fields get lost in the shuffle?

I cannot convince the people of Bluefield to get together as one voice and vote those commissioners and elected officials in Bluefield out of office. I wish that some of you freaks would address issues like importing non-native predatory species to control native animal populations ( it just ain't natural ). Incase you haven't noticed, There is an attack on West Virginians by nimrod liberals all because we did not vote for Black Hussein Osama. Liberals want to destroy us and our livelihood because we will not fall into conformity like the rest of the mindless sheep. W.V. is the last stronghold for real white people. We don't need any outside help and we don't tolerate any jewish, black, or any other influence. These stinky, hippy-liberals want to end coalmining but yet they have no alternative energy to take the place of coal. They do not want coal mining or any other business and industry in the USA privately owned but they want it socialised meaning owned by the government. Bunch of crazy "washed out hippies" trying to steal the limelight from the coal mines. Their skanky dirt is totally different from a coal miners dirt. It's from not having time to take a bath because you're too busy poking your nose in a business you know nothing about, because you're more than likely on welfare or retired and have no need for a job. Like that 80 something year old man that came from somewhere else. Then a bunch of young people "hippies in training", because they don't want or aren't smart enough to further their education or they find out they can get their fame by getting arrested and being on TV.
