When are the good folks of this community gonna wake up and realize we are still living in the 60's. WE have a great tourism commision, so what?
Does that do any of us any good?
WE have politicians who rant about what a great place Morhead is. Come on, are ya kiddin me?
I have to drive 30 miles to get my car serviced. No dealer anywhere CLOSE. I have to drive 45 miles to get my bike serviced. No dealer any where near here.
Is THIS progress? Nooo, not even close. Where ya gonna get a decent dinner? Arby's, Wendy's, MickieD's, or Pizza Hut? Come on, are ya trying to make me laugh. Cracker Barrel? I'd rather eat at home.
THis is as it always has been, repressed. The rich just wanna get richer. They control what goes on, just enough to try and keep the
rest a bit happy.THey stifle progress because they are getting nothing from it.
What a shame we all buy into this and are satisfied with it. They throw out tid bits in hopes we all don't revolt.
Isn't it great to be stuck in the Heart Of Poverty Stricken Appalachia?'

Though I agree with you on some things, Rowan County is a lot better and has more conveniences than most the surrounding counties. We can't have everything for everyone all at once. Us poor folk will just have to stick it out. No where is perfect.

For a brief time, like 1984 through 1992, Morehead embraced the fact that it is a college town, populated with youths, and would be most successful playing up this image. There were bars, several restaurants open 24 hrs a day, and people out all the time on Main Street. All in all, it was a pretty awesome place.

Then the natives couldn't stand this. The locals decided Morehead would be much better off trying to be more like Bardstown. With no Stephen Foster to theme their new historic town around, they chose the Folk Art Center and the Liberal / Progressive ideas taught at MSU to theme their town around.

So instead of an awesome town, you have a soulless Bardstown with a San Francisco attitude. You can bet if some chain were "gay owned" or cooked the food using natural sunlight somehow that Morehead would probably subsidize such a place as it would enhance the atmosphere of the town.

Morehead isn't what Morehead was. That's for sure.

agree, they made sure they killed this little town, sidewalks roll up at sunset..just the way they wanted it. No noise, no people, nothing to do but sit at home then they wonder why everyone in town is overweight. I remember the period you are talking about when Morehead was fun and now it's simply dead.

Shut up stupid, I believe that is my money taken out of my paycheck every week for Morehead/Rowan taxes, Ky taxes, the restaurant tax, etc. I believe anyone who works and pays taxes in their community have a right to complain, if you don't like it...too damn bad.

Hey goofy, its not tax dollars that brings business to a community....its investments from private money and if you complainers are not willing to invest your own money, you don't have a right to complain if other don't either, put up or shut up

What has changed can and probably will change again. When I first moved to Morehead around the year 2000 - I remember there being students everywhere - there were was Good Vibes Cafe, Main St. Music, Old Town, ect. Meaning there were things to do. I'm guessing the people who were/are elected have been the ones doing the changing and I think it has hurt Morehead's appeal. It used to be a little college town with charm. Now its just a college Police State. We have State Troopers, City Cops, and Campus Cops. There is nothing to do in town besides going to the movies or shopping at the few stores we have or going out to eat. I'm not here to complain I'm just pointing out some things. It kind of amazes me with all these cops in this small town the ammount of drug dealing pillheads and meth-heads... just something I think about. With nothing to do people are just going to go somewhere else and spend their money supporting that town/city's economy instead of our own.

I do partially blame the elected officials - but also the property owners. Particularly Main Street property owners. They make the rent so high a business has to do extremely well to make the rent. Remember the arcade? Yeah most people don't - don't feel bad. However as drab as Morehead can be - there are always ways to change it. Vote out these officials who are keeping things this way. Demand from your officals more than what they're giving and keep your eyes on them so they don't become corrupt and steal the money meant to make Morehead a better place. Also people interested in investing in a business in Morehead - make sure it is something people want here. The new Richard's Cool Stuff store is a start. Back Alley Tattooes is another great place. Peddler's Mall is great for those who like country styled merchandise. There are things to do - we just need more. As far as moving goes - if that works for you do it. If not - do something - someway - to change it.

You're ignorant. Period. Not everything has to do with a business, you tool. Ever heard of special events? There are plenty of things that could be done for the community with little to no cost for the citizens. But everyone knows the elected officials don't want anything like "fun" to go on in this town. The police practically harasses you for walking down the road, that's why nobody walks downtown except pill heads. Everyone that wants entertainment goes out of town with their hard earned money and another town reaps the rewards!! We don't need more restaurants and gas stations, I think we got enough of those.

Well, when I started this thread, these are just the kind of responces I expect from many. YOu can sure tell ones educated at Dear Old RCSHS. All they can do for coversation is come up with a few cuss words and simple solutuons like MOVE.
ONly thing good that has happened around here is the contributions John Will Stacey has made, and he doesn't even live in Rowan County. But we better thank God he's been around. He has done more for Rowan County than any of our local politicians.
As for MSU, all ya got up on that hill is a group sucking the place and the comminty dry while they fill their own pockets. The professors and staff there haven't seen a raise in 4 yrs.

Professional Bike Mechani

There are at least two (ex)professional bike Mechanics in Morehead that I know of that can build wheels to complete overhaul. The genneral community thinks bikes should cost what they do at Mall Wart and don't belong on the road or beside the road in a yard sale. Good sets of wheels cost more than most would pay for a whole bike. That said the whole bike industry like most others is engaged in planned obsolesce more than improving the product's serviceability.
