From reading this account, its tough to understand what actually happened.

1. Why burgalry? Sounds like clear case of armed robbery since there were people in the house.

2. The gun: article said a gun was later found in the house by the cops. Whose gun? The "burglar's?" He left it behind after he shot himself? One of the homeowners?
What?

3. Gun charges. Any? I doubt he had the near impossible to obtain carry permit. Or, if the gun belonged to one of the occupants, did he/she have a premise license (the many licenses you need in NY to exercise second amendment rights... lol)

4. Other charges: it says the gunman "held" the occupants at gunpoint. I believe there is an unlawful imprisonment law in NYS.

Who knows what the heck actually happened.
