Review: Benson's Gun Shop Inc

Bensons prices may not be the cheapest, but they are reasonable for the area. Chesters in Ronkonkoma is ten to twenty dollars per gun, but try getting what you need in accessories you might need. I've recently purchased two firearms from them, a hi point .40 cal carbine and a stoeger coach double barrel. They had an ample supply of magazines for the carbine and the coach gun was within price range. Dicks actually has the coach gun on sale for $20 more. I also tried to purchase the same gun from Herb Phillipsons in Herkimer upstate. They would not sell it to me because I'm "from the city"!! I live in port jeff. The fact is any retail store has to put up with multiple jerks in any given day and if the counter person is snappy it's probably because you just followed a jerk, or you are one.

Try another....... The bearded, glasses wearing, arrogant business owner locks HIS door before closing time, ignores simple taps to engage in dialouge, finally approached door after 3 minutes of standoff and tells me what I already determined ...(He closed early !@#$%^&*()_) he TOLD ME TO RETURN TOMORROW I Told HIM I would acquire it elsewhere ...he seemed unmoved, He flipped me the bird and I told him to F%^& Off!) What an ASSHOLE in plain english is my opinion. If they were the only Gun Shop in Suffolk County it would have made more sense to me. Listen folks there are better options than being overcharged, limited in ammo purchases and the ARROGANCE coveyed. Lets just hope this and future geneations go the way of EJ Korvettes, Billy Blakes, Circuit City, Friendly Frost, etc. etc. They may be big but they didnt get that way based on their point of purchase manners. I say you see through my disdain and know it is highly unusual for me to leave this type of review for anyone..... But the community has to know......BE PREPARED FOR SOME FORM OF FRUSTRATION WHEN PREVIEWING THEIR WARES. THIS REPEATED BEHAVIOR HAS PROMPTED ME TO LET THE WORLD KNOW THEY SUCK, ARE ARROGANT, HAVE LITTLE RETAIL MANNERS AND DO NOT HONOR WHAT THEY ADVERTISE TO THE PUBLIC ESPECIALLY THEIR HOURS OF OPERATION. HIS CLOSED CASH REGISTER HAD LITTLE TO DO WITH THE INFORMATION AND REVIEW OF INDUSTRY RELATED ITEMS I WENT THERE FOR IN THE FIRST PLACE. a NON-IGNORANT SHOPKEEPER WOULD HAVE TURNED THE KEY AND ASKED ME WHAT HE COULD HELP ME WITH NOT WAVE HIS ARMS LIKE I SHOULD LEAVE WITH NO EXPLAINATION AS TO WHY WE BOTH REMAINED ON SEPARATE SIDES OF A GLASS STOREFRONT DOOR IN THE COLD.

I had read so many negative reviews about Benson's gun shop that I was hesitant to even go there and look for a pistol. Well I knew I shouldn't have paid any attention to what I was reading. I went into the store last week and was asking about a pistol I was interested in buying. The guy that helped me was very knowledgable and respectful. Went back a few days later and there was a different guy helping me and he was very nice and helpful too. I bought the gun I wanted. I had a great experience with them and will continue to do business with Benson's. I have a theory that if you think that they were rude to you and disrespectful, it's probably because you are a tool and they want you to take your business somewhere else or they don't think you should own a gun.

one good thing I can say about Bensons is there are many black hookers lurking about if a BJ is needed!

I used Benson's this last week, to have a handgun sent up from Virginia. The staff was 'top shelf' in assisting me in getting this done. The lady who always seems to answer the phone( I think Mrs. Benson?)was very helpful in the process every time I called to ask a question. I was watching the other staff guys helping other customers and found them to be attentive to the customers also. I've got no complaints about service there. As far as prices, I haven't bought any thing from them yet, so I can't judge their prices.

Despite all of the negative reviews, I went to Benson's this past holiday season to purchase a gun for my husband. I visited MANY other establishments, all of which seemed to employ the same rude,unresponsive, non-customer service driven fools, whom I found unbearable to deal with. I can honestly say that my shopping experience with Benson's was one of the best I've ever had. As the head of purchasing for a large corporation, I do my fair share of "shopping". As a result of many negative shopping experiences, I do a large majority of my personal shopping on-line. However, the people at Benson's were knowledgeable, courteous, and obviously customer service driven. Perhaps if other retail establishments followed suit, I would be heading to a store rather than logging on to my computer.

I know nothing of Benson's,I remember "Edelmens" when I lived there. However I have been to numerous gun-shops along the east coast and here in Va. Understand that there are jerks in most gun shops.Usually the macho types who wear all kinds of weaponry and look at you when you walk in like they want to shoot you.Sarcastic when you ask a question, ect. It all depends who you talk to. Just do what I did! walk out and deal with another shop! My favorite encounter was here in Va. I was looking at the time for a .22 pistol! The tuff guy behind the counter told laughed and said" are you looking for a toy? you couldnt kill a mouse with this!" now I wanted the weapon for shooting cans. Yet this Neanderthal assumed I wanted to kill something and that a .22 couldn't hurt anyone and that it was a "Toy".
My first encounter was in Edelmans on LI in 1975. We were looking at the shotguns and a guy came in with a shotgun to return,in a case. The clerk took the gun out and the guy said a shell was jammed and he couldn't remove it! Another clerk drew his sidearm as a joke,cocked it,pointed at him, and asked" can I shoot him"! Needless to say that was the last visit in that place.
My point is? It depends on who waits on you! If your disrespected as a customer! Spend your $$ elsewhere.

Bad attitudes and sold me a gun with defects.I will go tomorrow and try to be civil and see if they fix the situation.I have bought guns from them before and never got a good deal however this is the first time that pr1ck with the beard and glasses scammed me.That guy has a nasty little attitude to boot,I will report back.

I have bought many weapons at Benson's as well as my hunting licenses. They are a great shop. They have always helped me and been polite. There are a lot of people bad mouthing them for BS. I have spent a lot of money there, never a problem

Sometimes it is busy, but no one has ever treated me poorly.

They have a great USED gun selection. You can find some real deals. I have.

I also go to their range and it is a very nice indoor range compared to what else is available.

They bought the range and now it is totally refurnished. Rather go there than Islip. Talk about rude butt heads. Our club moved to Benson's because they treat us fair and nice.

Read the reviews but the times I went in, guys were helpful and polite. Purchased a 40cal rifle and dealt with Nick and Ron- both were professional and polite. Don't goby the reviews. Bad reviews can't figure them out. Can't wait for my next purchase.

Went to Bensons and picked up a mosin nagant, Joe was nery nice, helpful and even talked history about the gun, also picked up shotgun, now i'am going back to get a friend a gun , will see Joe again! Some of the prices are high But they have what you need .

Went to buy ammo and the guy behind the counter was rude...Only let me buy two boxes of 9mm...OK some shops have limits but they are posted...Wanted over $40 bucks for a brick of 22...Left that on the shelf...Don't think I will be back...Not going to put up with a rude condescending moron...Other places to spend my $$$
