In some districts, teachers are putting responsibility first

Agree ---- We think that the gaps between union demands and school board offers are not the real issue in these districts. Rather, it is a statewide union strategy of leapfrogging pay scales among districts across the state, a grim game whose outcome must be cashiered by the taxpayers.

During this lull in activity between the community and the teachers:
Please take the time to take action with your legislators. This irresponsible behavior will rear it ugly head again. If not this year, again at the next contract. If not in this district, in another. The last paragraph of an opinion in the Morning Call summed it up pretty well: “Looking closely at the facts here, it is reasonable to conclude that this strike is not really about Saucon Valley schools but about a broader strategy by the teacher unions -- namely, continuing to drive up comparative teacher salaries through formulaic pay scales and expecting taxpayers to pay for the escalating cost of health care.” We can prevent this type of reprehensible behavior from taking place again in the future. Contact your legislators. Demand that they support The "Strike-Free Education Act" (House Bill 1369). It is very important that your legislators hear from you via letters, emails, phone calls or in-person visits. Stop Teacher Strikes in Pennsylvania NOW! Thirty-seven (37) states do not allow teachers to strike. Reform-minded state lawmakers want to make Pennsylvania the 38th state to protect taxpayers and children and need a lot of public support. Let’s get Pennsylvania on that list. Check this website for information. http://www.stopteacherstrikes.org/ Here is a link to find contact information for your legislators: http://www.legis.state.pa.us/cfdocs/legis/hom... Click there names for contact information. Contact your legislators and demand that they support The "Strike-Free Education Act" (House Bill 1369). Keep the pressure on your legislators. We can prevent this from happening again. |

Because of my complete distrust in both unions and most school boards, I can only hope that there can be some legislation that will allow teachers to be treated fairly and also prevent the school boards from more about themselves then what is best for the students.

If this was true home school would be a stronger institution.
