I suggest the cops keep some the dope money they find and save it for a rainy day-- look at the way the gulf vets were treated-not too many people are clean and sober enough to even care about anything but themselves.

That's crazy , porno actor's and actress's for the same class's they could have gotten at a community college?--- anyways--Who wants to ostracize the homeless here in santa cruz?? The prostitutes and their money inadequacies and wets with their foreign organized drug fronts---and who caused the std/drug healthcare bills that are ruining our state???? Maybe the cops can see some kind of "future reckoning" somehow with their projected layoffs etc. and figure it out!!!

""We have a police department that is overburdened," said Comstock, a co-founder of the anti-crime advocacy group Take Back Santa Cruz. "Clearly, inebriation is causing problems in our community."

Comstock, a member of the council's Public Safety Committee who was elected in 2012 on a pro-business platform, said she hopes the debate will spark a larger discussion about the number of high-risk alcohol retailers, most of which are downtown."

No, John, business does not consist solely of alcohol sales. Aren't you always whining about dangerous DUI drivers?

Now what's that got to do with a Welfare-leeching LOON that is going to need a campsite in 58 days?

You're obviously an idiot who doesn't understand that "Likes" on FB does not equate to TBSC members.

Screw TBSC trying to run out the needle exchange.
Let the people stand up to replace it.

Well the tourism economy does not need the needle exchange and someone dumped a bunch in the river -obviously on purpose--we don't need to live that moment again-if we could keep the drug traffic away from the water sheds. Std transmission from a needle is rare if any because of the fact the virus's start to die 1 minute after leaving the bloodstream--so you have to be pretty quick on the draw-jailhouse's are a good place for std needle transmission. A "insight" clinic would be better but expense all the same.- hard decision's but there is a middle ground and giving free needles by a watershed so the people can STASH them to avoid a drug charge is not VERY SMART! The needle exchange's have to WAY FAR away from the watersheds.

Pro business?

I find it ironic that Kris Reyes, a representative of the Seaside Company, spoke against the additional hours. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the Seaside Co. own the Boardwalk Bowl, where Coasters is located? Basically, they don't want additional competition. So let me see if I understand this ... There was strong support for the extended hours from residents and fellow business owners, but Pamela Comstock decided to challenge the advisory panel? Wow ... Once again another small business in Santa Cruz is denied the ability to make a living. Guess we see the writing on the wall here ... South Beach will probably move to Capitola like everyone else. Except the Seaside Co., they have a nice monopoly on Santa Cruz. Makes me wonder who got herself a free pass for the summer. Just sayin'.

Well at least she hasn't tried to help Robert Norse. That would be political suicide.

Reality Check

San Francisco, CA

#87 Jul 27, 2013
....and now Steve Schlicht is circling the drain. Is there even one TBSC member who is not a criminal or a sociopath?

The City of Santa Cruz's Public Safety Task Force Member Steve Schlicht is quoted in an online thread as saying
he is "fine with junkies dying somewhere else. Outside the county is fine by me."

We have serious problems with someone who has been appointed to Mayor Hilary Bryant's Public Safety Task Force
writing in an online forum (facebook thread) that he is okay with "junkies dying."

How can we have objective and thoughtful consideration of these troubling issues if one is so blatantly biased and
completely and callously compassionless. Isn't this person trying to get to the bottom of core issues?

We see that none of the others on the "task force" has any background with drug addiction services or social services at all for that matter. If this is a gauge of the thinking of these people then those folks who're needing help as they face addiction and homelessness are in serious trouble. We see a complete lack of real interest in these problems and a lack of reality based solutions. What was the Mayor thinking appointing such a careless person to this "safety task force?"

We ask for a public statement and apology from both Steve Schlicht and from the mayor.

"Steve Schlicht is the Managing Editor and Founder of Clean Up Santa Cruz! He is involved in a number of community service projects in Santa Cruz, California. He is the founder of the Santa Cruz Bike Base, an online bike registry and community activism website dedicated to increasing local bike registrations and fighting and reducing bike theft. He is also the director of marketing communications and information technology for Take Back Santa Cruz, a non-profit group focused on improving public safety in Santa Cruz."

Steve Schlicht is a brand management and marketing communications consultant.

"Promoting your brand through social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook will build your target market through effective, targeted marketing communications, as well as create a direct feedback loop for your existing customers."
