What happened to Sophia?

I grew up in the town of Sophia,later moved to NC.I have always told everyone about the great times and people that was in Sophia WV.always spoke proudly of the town,and have told many people if they are ever in WV.go and take a look at the town I was proud of.
However after reading the forums of Sophia ,it sounds like they are the joke of the state,not meaning the people but the police departmant and fire departman and as I read alot of the statements made,it seems like the officers are not grown up enough to be officers,and people need to invest to see if they have ever been trained for that postion.

Police are not trained when they start out!
They are given a book of rules and 10 codes to learn and they get trained on the job until they time out and then have to go to the academy or are terminated.
They are a danger to themselves and to the public!

A serious criminal could set one of these young kids up in a second and that would be a shame!

I wouldn't want that on my conscious!!!!

Whats wrong with Sophia is plain and simple, DANNY BARR, get rid of him and things will start getting better.

All but 3 of the Sophia officers are academy trained one of which is in the academy now one has a 4 year degree in forensic science and the other has over 10 years in emergency service...they have every right to be police officers I'm sorry you can't do as you please like you have been in the past!!!

Shut up, get a life and get your facts straight. Who cares, none of the crap you mentioned makes you a police officer. Even if you go to the academy you can still be a worthless cop and this town has had plenty and their still keeping their rep up.

You people think you're so d*mn smart! I have live in sophia my whole life & it's a fine town! There is nothing wrong with our officers. They are fair & yes they are young but that doesn't matter! You could be 50 years old with 20 years experience & still be a crappy officer or you could be an officer at 20 years old & be the best one out there! Age is irrelevant. You people need to act your age & go to a council meeting & show your concerns not the Internet!

You need to open your eyes instead of your big mouth, these young guys think they are supercops all because they have a badge and gun on their side. Why don't you go check out how many tickets have been written by the two big idiot's on the force now compared to officers of the past, it's all because of their attitude and wanting to give people a hard time and run up town revenue, plain and simple. It's a small town that used to be a place that people wanted to come to, and now avoid because of our police officers wanting to write a ticket for every little mistake made. People actually don't come to Sophia because of them, so you need to keep your mouth shut and try opening your eyes.

Very respectable business's in the raleigh county area won't open a business in Sophia because of the police department scanning every vehicle coming through town, that might have a blemish on it to capitalize on!
The drug dealers and punks run free while the 3 mile over the speed limit folks pay for the police department!

We need the drugs out of Sophia NOW!

All the drug dealers do is drive the speed limit into town and do the speed limit out of town and they know they are safe ; )

A 2012 escalade with 20 lbs. of weed,crack or meth in the back doing the speed limit is safe!

if you added up all the thefts in Sophia in 10 year's, not one of them was because of a minor speeder or speeder at all and at least 90% were because of drugs!

Cars with bad paint jobs,smoking exhaust and loud pipes are not whats bringing the drugs in to Sophia.

Illegal drugs cause family abuse,rapes,murders,assaults,t hefts and health issue's!

This town needs to focus and follow a vector of importance.

When you are,obese(people wonder if you've been to the academy or will PASS the academy) and verbally abusive to thecitizens you are citing, you build NO respect!

I recommend that the police in Sophia take a look at Randy White from the Sheriffs dept. Randy is a GOOD cop and A GOOD person. I've never had a ticket in my life and Randy could write me a ticket and I would know It was warranted,fair and professional. Randy knows that people are people and minor mistakes are just that MINOR mistakes!
Randy does not look at financial, personal gain or notoriety as a bait for his ticket book.

Tomi Peck is obviously not interested in Sophia or she wouldn't be running for magistrate...Right?

I've seen fights, threats and blantant lies at the Sophia Town meetings; what makes you think I would have any luck bringing constructive issues to the meeting?

There's whats on the street and whats in the council meetings.

The street (topix) seems to get the most truth and attention.

50% of the people in this town won't go to a town meeting because of these issue's...Who am I to think they will listen to me?

You're the Dumbas-, the Supercops have written more tickets in the last six months than any other police officers they have ever had. They are not decent enough to warm you first that the town has turned into a house of revenue for all their past mistakes, just want to write tickets. lol geez, get a life, Sophia has its problems as all small towns do now, there are way too many pill heads. The cops should be shown the respect the deserve they are they ones risking their lives. I was recently pulled over and the officer was very polite to me as I was to him. I knew that I was in the wrong he gave me a warning, but had I been rude or try to lie to him I probably would have been given a ticket. Officers are usually fair as long as you dont try to be a jerk to them, show them the respect the deserve and only those with something to hide are usually scared or hating on them.

Respect is something you earn, if you got a warning by the Sophia police in the last 8 months then kiss yourself in the mirror. You either know the one who pulled you over or caught him at Donut time. Take of for people who deserve it.
