Dawg, Sorry about your COPD problem. Hope you can get good medical help in the Greensboro area. Most of my schoolmates have passed on. I believe that my outliving most of them is a result of my having lived in metro areas most of my life where I had good medical services available.

Well, it also has allot to do with heredity or Genes. Like my mother's people are Cherokee and my inheritance from them is a potential Diabetes. Dad's people are Russian and Slovakian and the potential for poor lungs seems to my my inheritance from them.. Also working in the Tronia Mines of Wyoming, Coal Mine of West Virginia, Cotton Mills of North Carolina, Asbestos removal before it was deemed bad for ya and smoking really took it's toll on me as well.. But I guess trying to provide for my family and the work I've done really nailed me.. Oh well, God's Will and Plan be done. I'm not complaining though cause I had a pretty good life. |
|
Yeah, I know smoking, asbestos fibers and coal dust are all hard on lungs. I smoked for 21 years and quit in 1963. I suspect that had I not stopped smoking, I wouldn't be here now. I am 84 years old now and I hope that I have several more years left. If not however, I couldn't complain too much. I have had some "close calls" in my life and feel lucky to still be here.
I need to get up to NC to see my sister while gasoline is still cheap (4 bucks per gal). If it keeps going up, I'll have to quit driving. |

Tell me about the Coal and such being hard on ya lungs, but when I was a young man such jobs were needed to take care of one's family.. Myself, I figure I may have a couple more years left before the growths in my lungs claim me. That is why I have to go and try to change things here in Danbury, NC.. The Planning and Zoning Codes are making my 3.9 acres worthless in the Planning Zoning Areas worthless cause I can not afford to Stick Build or a Modular Home.. But if ya can get out to visit, by all means do so cause life is simply too short not to show those you love that you care about them. Sure wish I knew a Lawyer with a bit of Back Bone.. |

I’d never heard of Danbury NC so looked it up. I haven’t been through that area very much. I had a friend from Welch who moved to Stuart VA (sort of near Danbury) years ago. He was an electrician for the N & W railroad when they had electric locomotives and trolley wires (probably before your time). In the late forties, the RR did away with the electrification and my friend left the RR and got a job as electrician in some new mill Stuart. I visited him in VA once but he later died of prostate cancer.
Also, I recall staying overnight in Winston Salem many years ago. I don’t remember much about Winston Salem except I recall that I liked the looks of it. I’ve never been to Greensboro. My stepdaughter lives in the Charlotte area and is looking for a house to buy here in FL. She has her NC house on the market. Real Estate is slow nowadays. I like it here but sometimes get itchy feet since I don’t get to go much nowadays. I don't want to move away from here. |

Cuvee in Rocky Mount has a 101. I thought that was pretty impressive.

Yeah, I know the feeling about the itchy foot. Sometimes I take a notion to move back home, but when I think about my grandson and what kinda opportunities he would have when he was grown I change my mind. I like the weather here in and around Danbury and Walnut Cove and the people are great. Though there's not much in the way for work here and ya gotta go to Winston Salem pr Stuart for almost everything, I still like the place.. As far as being on Topic goes as the person from Mo. suggest.. It is whatever we make it to be. You don't have to read what is typed here if you don't like it or you can set there and whine.. I'm not being rude as you may think, just being blunt. Now go bother someone else.. Others are interested in what we are talking about. |

I'm not from Mo. I live in Walnut Cove, not sure why my location changes every time I log in.
I'm not whining, I politely suggested you move the conversation to a more private setting. Also "now go bother someone else" is, in fact, rude. Maybe if others are interested, you could create a new topic for this conversation, as it has absolutely nothing to do with the original thread topic. Simple message board etiquette. |

What you view as rude, I view as being blunt. I can not be held accountable for how you preceive my words. Now about your location, I only have your word you live in Walnut Cove. So forgive me if I do not believe you. Again, not rude, merely blunt! As far as Message Etiquette, I've been doing this for 14 years on a daily bases. I know Chat Etiquette and that Etiquette goes like this when a thread falls silent for a period of time then any topic goes. Now unless you wish to add something about the "Restaurant Report Card - August 2, 2007" to bring it back the Topic "Restaurant Report Card - August 2, 2007" GET OFF MY BACK!!! |

Goodness, do you have to turn everything into an argument? You knew what I was talking about, why correct my wording?

You may not remember the electric locomotives since they were done away with shortly after WW-II. A pic of one is at the URL:
http://spec.lib.vt.edu/imagebase_new/norfolks... They were better than the big steam engines for going up the hollows to the mine tipples. I used to have a lot of RR pics in my favorites (book-marked) but I lost them when I had to purge this computer and reinstall. I didn't have a lot of things backed up. Now I have to go look for them when I want them. I am sometimes on the Welch forum as "florida man". People over there aren't so persnickety. |

Yeah, I remember a set of Trains dad got me 3 years before I was born.. They were the Georgia Pacific.. I used to love to play with them.. Well only one I've seen is persnickety. One out of a Bunch ain't bad.. They think being blunt and to the point is rude, but me, I admire it.. But then my White Russian name means "Obstinate Family" and for over 1000 years we have earned that name given us by a Russian Hetman.. Which one has been lost to time.. Oh well, God's Will and Plan ya know.. SLAVA ISUSU CHRISTOS! |

Blunt is not a synonym for rude. You appear to pepper your posts with a little bit of both.
