Stop, Look, & Listen. What is it with truck drivers lately. Don't they understand basic road safety rules?

I think the line limit for that track is 25-35 mph.
I think the driver of the truck was backing acroos the tracks and the train couldnt stop in time.

Don't these idiots realize that trains run on tracks? It's not like the train is coming east on I-40. If the lights are flashing it's the law for a vehicle to stop. Oh wait, they were texting and didn't see the lights or the train!! The train didn't hit the truck, the idiot driver was in the way of the train.

Many of those crossings along that section of US 311 between Randleman and Archdale don't have any warning devices at all....no lights, arms or anything. But, that is when you need to think...ok...I need to look and listen!!

This truck driver is an idiot. I pass the train quite a bit and it moves slowly. There is a road about 500 feet before this accident and I can promise you that this train makes it known it's there by whistling. So it's this idiot's fault not the train this time. One needs to use what's between the ears occasionaly and if there isn't something there, just admit it.

Liam, i agree that the driver should have seen the train, however I work in Archdale and I can tell you that on occasions the train blows its whistle literally feet from my crossroads on occasion. I have even talked to Norfolk southern about this. They have gotten better at it but still sometimes they blow it to close. However in saying that the driver probably should have been paying attention.

I happened to have seen the aftermath of this accident, and it was not pretty. But instead of calling either the engineer or the truck driver an idiot, you should be asking god to help this family. I honestly do not see how this man survived the accident. But he did and I am quite sure that he will be more careful if there is ever a next time. But this should be used a lesson for all of us, we all should be more careful when we are driving. Myself included. I was with my 2 teenage sons when we saw this and I used this as a way to speak to them about safe driving. So instead of throwing blame and mailiging someone before you know the whole story, have some empathy for this family.

I am a truck driver and I drive around Greensboro, Winston-Salem, Kernersville and Burlington on a daily basis, I should be asking the same question you did about people driving their cars everyday, they give us no room, they cut us off because they don't want to be behind us, they fly up in front of us at stoplights not knowing whether it's going to change or not and then when it does they have to slam on brakes in front of us. This isn't a one time a week thing when all this crap happens, it's "EVERY DAY". Look at statistics people, when a tractor trailer is involved in an accident, 9 times out of ten it's the driver of the cars fault. Not every truck driver is at fault.

This man driving the truck that dropped off garbage BACKED OUT onto the tracks. So, he had a 50/50 shot of a train being there. Since he didn't bother to get out and look he's an idiot. Not being a judge or anything. But you can't think it's smart of him to not look. I mean, that's a general rule of driving is to look behind you. This metal yard isn't covered in trees by the track or anything. Sometimes you just gotta call it like it is.

Why is it that people have to start name calling? Were you there? Did you see what Happened? Have you never had A second when your mind wondered? Come on people a man was nearly killed, where is the concern for a human life?
And as for truck drivers, well they are men and women trying to work and make a living like everyone else. My husband has been driving a truck for over 31 years and Thank God has never had a wreck. So until you drive a truck for awhile and see what they see don't pass judgement.

This particular truck driver BACKED UP onto a TRAIN TRACK!!!! I'm sure that if he had SEEN the train, he wouldn't have done it!!! So he didn't look good enough. If you see a big black train coming slowly upon you (and if you have your eyes open) you likely will not get hit.
So because I'm not personally a truck driver, I can't pass judgement? Drive by where this happened. Then you can see what kind of driver he is. One that is not aware of what is taking place around him.

So again, this is his fault, not the train. If he had been watching where he was going, he would not have gotten hit by this SLOW moving train!!!!

SOPHIA, N.C.- A truck driver was airlifted to the hospital after a train crashed into his truck in Sophia late Friday morning.

The accident took place around 10:45 a.m. near Cranford Iron and Metal Co. on U.S. 311.

Gilbert York, of Asheboro, had just dropped off a trash container at the used metal facility and was pulling back over the tracks when his flat-bed truck was hit by a Norfolk Southern freight train.

The train engineer said York pulled out when the train was less than 100 feet from the crossing. The engineer said he hit his brakes but was unable to stop.

York survived the collision and was airlifted to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, where he was in serious condition as of 4:30 p.m. Friday

Personally, Im tired of all the Driver stupidity im seeing lately. People need to use their frickin heads and stop being so stupid. How many people are going to have to die before it clicks. You are not gifted the right of way. Stop, Look, Listen before your turn, backout or do whatever, and this goes for all drivers whether your crossing the tracks or turning on a road or highway. The majority of the incidents lately could have been avoided if people used the two things inside their head, their eyes.

There should be a mandatory DMV Driving test on yielding the right of way every five years.

The driver had to cross the tracks to get into the Metal place, so he should had been more cautious coming out.
