Worried, I by no means am affiliated with Ellington. And look at what you said, IT CAUGHT ON FIRE. It did NOT explode and nobody was injured. So, why is this an issue? Most of the people who are causing the drama will not even have children attending the school. They simply want to stir up trouble

Also, there was no explosion at range fuels. This is another rumor that is being spread by a certain wannabe board member. It was a small fire that was put out by them, the fire department wasn't even called. If it was such a big explosion, I am certain I would have heard it on the news. Has anyone heard about it on the news or read about it in the newspaper? Nope, didn't think so. doesn't that strike you as funny? Yeah, it's called ignorance people. Why doesn't everybody stop being it?
I agree that is alot of crap being spread by that wannabe board member and his little group of redneck friends! Sure am glad he won't have to represent my district. I heard his wife is just as bad at keeping something stirred up at the county offices! She made alot of empty promises during her campain too.

I have one question... Since the board members don't know what is going on, exactly how do ya'll? Most of the people who are so "outraged" about this school are only going by rumors that are being spread. Why doesn't the "concerned citizens" of Treutlen county stop being ignorant and find out facts for themselves? Come on people, I learned this in 5th grade. And if this land was so dangerous, I don't think the STATE OF GEORGIA would have approved it. Certain people are trying to get elected and are spreading too many rumors.I am all for people going to board meetings and voicing their opinions, afterall that is waht they are for. But there is a civilized way to go about this. Yelling and causing scenes is not civiilized and will not get you anywhere.
I know what is going on because I talked to several of the teachers who were fired. They had talked to some of the board members and their answer was: "We didn't know anything about it until we heard it on the street!" They had to vote to let Chuck "reduce the force" and they had to vote for those he recommended back. If they didn't know who was let go, then they are pitiful board members not to ask who they were. I would have wanted to know so I could have given a reasonable explanation to anyone who asked me about it, especially if one of the teachers might have been in my district. It is odd that the board members didn't know anything about it, yet the 'rumors' were flying all over the Elementary school about who at the middle school was let go before those teachers even knew it! There's a lot of relatives of board members and the wife of the super over there. Somebody talks after every board meeting! Keep your ears open and you might learn what's going on too! I do not go around yelling or causing scenes. I'm not wanting to be elected to any kind of office, but I am concerned with how people are treated unfairly and how the board members are so weak and won't stand up to Chuck.
They are supposed to represent the citizens of this county, not to be 'yes' men and woman to Chuck. They are his boss and we in turn are their bosses; however, that is not how this board and superintendent work. Chuck knows he only has to please those 5 board members and he could care less what the general public thinks. Say what you like but he 'butters' their bread so he can get them to do just what he wants!

How in the world do you see that site will endanger our children. The state came in and inspected the site. That's like saying the old school is in a dangerous spot because there is a gas station that could catch on fire down the road.

Why is this posted in Vidalia Forum instead of Soperton Forum?
Is nostalgia important? Anybody want to tear down the Primary School campus? Lots of people worked hard for many years to build our school facilities. Why destroy all that?
Follow the money. What is the real reason for constructing a new school?
Location. GA 29 carries more traffic than all the roads through Soperton. The location is four miles from town, where all the safety departments are located. That's four extra minutes in an emergency. What will happen to the present school buildings? Walmart can locate anywhere and people will come. Put a school out in the country, it will remain a country school. Consider counties who have done it already.

The new school location might be fine for some people, but it is a LONG way for the people on the Emanuel County side of our county. And, it is a long way out in the event of an emergency situation: fire, law enforcement and/or ambulance. Wonder if any of these things were considered when looking at the new school site?

There is land behind the current TES that is already owned by the school board. Big concern: how many years before the current football stadium, fieldhouse, and "new" gym (14 years old) will be abandoned for "new" athletic facilities at the "new" school. Seems like us local citizens are gonna be looking at an awful lot of abandoned, run down facilities. Guess the BOE hasn't thought of that...they didn't think to ask who lost their jobs.....

Oh how I wish you guys would post your names. It's so easy to be a big bad know it all on here if you don't have to post your name. I have heard all about ya'll voicing your opinions on this page - so here I go. I'm not sure about the location of the new school, but I'm not really hip on my child going to the Elementary school when their class last year had BLACK MOLD growing in it because they couldn't stop the roof from leaking. I'm all for a new school.

I agree that Treutlen needs a new school. But there are several issues with the location:
1. Traffic - Hwy. 29 is busy and hilly at the school location. Can you imagine the back-up of traffic for the pickup lines and buses in the afternoons and drop-offs in the morning? Then, you'll have the inexerienced teenage drivers trying to pull out of there as well. It will be a nightmare.
2. Buses - The location is well-beyond the city limits. The BOE will have to add additional buses, routes and drivers. Think of where the current schools are and how many kids walk to school. That will not be a possibility out on 29.
3. Range fuels - No one really knows what is going on there because they are so secretive. There was a fire the first day it tred operating, and reports vary on the amount of damage. We don't even know if the place is going to smell like the paper mill in Dublin or many other plants like that. Something to think about, but no one will know til the place starts operating, if ever.
4. Sports facilities - Treutlen, for its size, has one of the nicest stadiums, field, and fieldhouse of any school around. The gym is nice, fairly new and was built to last for a long time. The baseball field is nice as well with recent addition of press box. If the new school is 4 miles away, where are the kids going to practice? Are they going to be bused (yet another issue) from the school to the current sports locations, or are practice fields going to built? Or, is the board going to spend millions building new athletic facilities. Now, it is well known that athletic facilities come from LOCAL funds not FEDERAL. That's why the booster club has always worked hard to put in new bleachers, lights, etc. That money is from the LOCALS.
Current buildings - with the new school, what on earth is the BOE going to do with these 3 schools? Let them sit there and rot?
Finances - supposedly the money is there to build this school. All taxpayers better hope so, or we'll be footing the 24 million or more bill.(which is much larger than the 3 million spend on the jail) It is just sad that all these teachers have been laid off and the money for the school can't be used to keep them teaching. But that's the sad state of this country - no common sense.
K-12 concept - my biggest concern is having all grades on one campus. When the middle school was added, and 6th & 7th grade sent over from the Elementary campus, it was promised by the board at that time, that no middle schoolers would mix with high schoolers. Yet, it happened EVERYDAY. I know because I was a student then. There is NO WAY that an 18 year old senior can be kept away from the 12 year olds if he/she wishes. The plan supposedly calls for one lunchroom & library. How is that going to work? How can you keep the small children away from the older ones? During this day and time it is a tremendous risk to put small children at the same location as teenagers. Somebody will be hurt, abused, or worse. You may laugh at this thought, but think about what goes on and why there are so many kids going to the YDC.

The thing is, all these concerns could have been addressed by the BOE and the Superintendent. Instead, everything has been hush-hush bulldoze ahead. All people want is answers to basic questions, and that has simply not happened.

See you do not know what you are talking. Range Fuels didnt catch on fire the first day it started up. See it is ignorant people like you who do not know what they are talking about that make everyone in this community mad.

No certain person is over the meeting. We just want to get everything out in the open. The is alot that everybody dont know about.I think we should all come together and let the board now our opions.Everybody says they are against the new school and budget cutts and layoffs, ect, but nobody has the guts to come tell them how they feel.

Ask your self this? How many relatives of BOE members can chuck e. directly cause unemployment issues to. How much money does chuck e. get in his own pocket for getting these federal and/or state grants approved. Now that is a crying shame.Someone that knows how or what about these grants should check into wether or not the "grant getter" does get a portion or percentage of said grants. That info came from a very reliable source. Why can't the citizens of Treutlen County make the final decision, especially since a new school would directly impact the tax payers. Oh yea three bids given on starting the grade work etc..... mentioned in last weeks paper for school site.....two of the bids were in the 900,000 dollar range with a difference of only approximately 30,000 lets just say, and the bid that won was in the 600,000.00 dollar area.Something is very wrong with this picture. Think then act, call up your BOE member and let them know they can be rplaced

why were just teachers let go and not some stuff we did not need at the school system. It looks like some of the asistants to the super should of had their big fine pay cut and put in classrooms to teach instead of them doing the supers job while he sets on ass and draws that big pay check that he does not earn?

If Im not bad mistaking... Chuck or the Board didnt fire anyone. The motion to be dismissed came from the principals who I havent heard anyone say anything about! They made a recommendation based on evaluations and performance and all Chuck and the Board did was make it legal. There is so much more than what you are hearing....You really dont have a clue.

Well, do tell us the 'more we're not hearing' so we'll all know! You sound like a board member!(And the word is mistaken, not 'mistaking') Were the principals at the board meeting to make that recommendation? For it to be legal, Chuck should have been the one making the recommendation and the board had to vote on it. So fill us clueless people in with all your information. That's the problem now! Chuck and the BOE do everything so secretively. Everything is 'cut and dried' before they come out in the open to vote. The board is told how to vote before they ever meet in open session. It is such a farce!
