I think it shows poor taste For the LOCAL News Paper to publish pictures of people who are CHARGED with crimes before being found guilty in court! If these people are found innocent do they publish their picture then? What,s your opinion?

don't have a problem with it at all. It's actually pretty common place now a days. You can pick up these arrest papers at nearly any convenience store. It's also hilarious at some of the low life idiots you can find in there

I agree it is wrong. Being charged for a crime is a charge, and it does not mean you are guilty. It is wrong to blast people's picture before the end result. It is another way the law is bullying people. I find it disgusting.

Sopertonboy - laughing at the expense of others is pretty sad. You might find yourself on their photo shoot one day, and would you think you were an idiot? The law is about innocent until proven guilty. Posting a photo before that fact goes against my belief and the law I study and practice.

All law enforcement arrests are public record no matter the charge or end result... don't like your name or face in the paper???... don't be a f**k up or hang around them... I applaud this town for finally pointing out its excrement!!!

So glad too see your education is paying off.NO one said it was against the law or a matter of public record.I Said it shows POOR TASTE.I.ll bet the paper knows who's picture to print & who,s not to print. Only a total A*#% H%#e would be so judgemental of others.Maybe you will find your self in the ole line up. Then people can judge you.It can happen real easy in a small town...

yup all you scumbags mad about them posting the pics are probably the ones with the mug shots. I am a real life a$$hole because I aint afraid of telling yall the truth. It's actually pretty simple, if you don't want your picture in the paper, don't get your sorry butt arrested.

Why all the hate over this topic? It is just plain ridiculous to get vile over a difference of opinion. I think it isnt that great to put everyone that has been arrested in the paper. I mean, come on. It is all about embarrassment. I get that. But, if that person turns out to be innocent, then is there a retraction? NO. So I do not believe in it. Just wrong to post something to embarrass. Some of those folks might end up innocent.

And for those that are so high and mighty - dont be. Doesnt take long for the other shoe to drop. Noone is perfect. They put people in the paper for having a suspended license and that is easy to have happen.

Well, I agree with you oldman. And for those that dont agree, it is okay. I think everyone is entitled to agree or disagree without being hateful.

I agree 100% With old man & Joe.All I can say to sopertonboy is I,am sure your town is a much better place because of people like you! What a wonderful citizen you must be! P.S. I have never been arrested in my life.

Do all cities do this now or just small towns? I cant imagine the bigger papers putting people in the paper for a suspended license or traffic violations with all the big crimes happening.

Soperton, GA

#13 Jun 17, 2012
and it's also pretty easy to be responsible and keep your license renewed, especially since you can do it over the internet. I'm all for embarrassing those you break the law. That is what is wrong with our society now a days, people are too politically correct and afraid of hurting people's feelings. I want to go back to the public hangings and what not. On a side note, whoever the judge in Toombs Co. is that makes shoplifters wear the sign that they are thieves is brilliant

oh and fyi to those who were wondering if they only did this type of thing in small towns, the answer is no. You can find similar papers in convenient stores nearly anywhere in nearly every big town. The only difference is that paper is sold separately from the newspaper. Also, if that's not enough to convince you, most papers have the police blotter, or arrest log....which by the way, still shows the names of people who have broken the law and what the offense was....BEFORE they have been convicted.

Sopertonboy - you want to go back to public hangings????? You have too much hate in your heart. I am all for abiding by the law, but that is taking it too far.

Posting of current convictions in newspapers is fine. The only problem with those arrest mags in convenience stores is some of those convictions go way back. If you were convicted ten years ago you may find the old picture and the conviction following you for the rest of your life. If you try and clear your record you may have to pay multiple publishers of these little mags. It's a money making scheme. A little public humiliation is a good thing, however.

Joel Edge: We are talking about publishing pictures before Court. Is it right to humiliate a person before he or she has been found guilty ? Once A picture has been published people already form an opinion of that person without hearing their side of the story.Ever one has a right to their day in court.Publish the verdict not the charge. Public humiliation is a good thing IF you are guilty. But what if you are found NOT GUILTY. They don't print your picture then. Then you have an innocent person humiliated.

ben, I don't have hate in my heart, I'm just haven't been brainwashed by the media and liberals like most have. I guarantee you if we started having public hangings for murderers, rapists and child molesters, the crime rate would go down

zebco, there is no difference in printing the people in that paper than there is when other papers list out the arrest log. 9887
poor taste

I don't agree with posting photos in the paper of ppl who get arrested. I don't mind if its written about who has been CONVICTED after going in front of a judge but to just post all mug shots in the paper before they even been to court isn't ok. I also don't believe that if the crime is small like traffic violations or probation violations it shouldn't be included. EVERYONE at some point makes mistakes so to thrive off someone else's mistakes is just poor taste on yourself. But everyone has there own opinion an is entitled to one. This one is mine..
