I believe, I would like to know more history on the Gillis family from Soperton. I've never lived there myself. Just go there to go hunting on my fathers land there.

Donny Gillis a Judge! John Ellington a Judge! Chuck Ellington a school superintendent! Donny was one of the biggest hell raisers I ever knew. Loved a fast car or girl. John just never was that smart, and Chuck played for the other side with the only two other ones in the school. Boys do ya'll remember senior day and they broke the paddle on Ds butt because they thought we where drinking... little did they know, funny then and funny now.

The first time I passed through Treutlen County in the middle sixties the first thing I noticed was how clean the roads were and well maintained. I married a Soperton girl in the seventies and have children and grands living there now. It is just as much home to me now as my original hometown and I know most of the Gillis's you asked about. I don't know whether they consider me a friend or not, but I certainly think most of them are great community minded people who do the best they can do and as all of us, make mistakes. Are there "Bad Apples" in the barrel ? Who knows ? I know there are some mighty "Good Apples" in the barrel....He without sin, Let him cast the first stone

My sincere best wishes for a speedy recovery for Ms. Marie Gillis, and please know that others share your pain at this difficult time. I have always looked up to you for the work you've done with animals over the years, and know that many rewards await you in the future. As for the "Naysayers", "But for the Grace of God, there go I" Barron, Lee, Neil and Maria, you are in my thoughts and prayers too......

Homer was my grand father's brother. His last daughter, Erlaise, passed last week in Tishomingo. Only one child left, Ricky, lives in Alabama in a town named Phil Cambell. I have a picture of Homer and Aunt Mamie. Homer was a twin to Horace. contact me jgillis at bellsouth dot net.

I was born a Gillis, but adopted. I am doing research on family and wondered if you know any family historian. Specifically, does anyone know about Angus Gillis born Feb. 1, 1800, Skye, moved to NC, and buried in Soperton, GA.
