tax question. I am a single 24 year old with a 5 year old son. We live with my father. My father will be claiming my son on his taxes as a dependant but he makes to much $ to get the Earned Income Credit. Can I still claim my son as a qualifying child just to get the Earned income credit?

I paid for our granddaughter's braces this year; $1772.
is that deductible?

Also, we just purchased a rental home in Nov.'08; how much of the
closing costs, etc. are deductible?

What if I donated clothing to an charity such as the salvation army but don't have the signatures of the appraiser or Donee acknowledger for my 8283 form for mail in. Do I mail it in anyway?

No - only one person can claim a dependant once which entitles EIC as a benefit for doing so.
