Thinking about applying for a job there, preferably a full-time position where I sit with people in their houses. Can anyone tell me how to apply? Do they pay pretty well?

Eight an hour. 40 hours. If you are looking at the one in london, it is not really CAKY anymore. Rescare bought it out in Feb. 2010.They have about 15 individuals. Three houses.

Well, that doesn't sound good. I've had enough of working with gossiping busybodies for one lifetime. Is Independent Opportunities better?

Go to the london topix site and type in Independent Opportunities or Gary at IO. I think Somerset's IO is better than London. London's IO is a gossip and ass kissing. You make less money at London too.

not sure how anyone gets out of working weekend... when I worked there a few years ago it was every weekend. i have visitation with my kids every other weekend and explained that at the interview, but it didn't matter to them. IO's management seems to be better and they have many caky individuals now. My bro works there and really likes it.

You are right, bigdaddy. The idividuals there do need someone who cares for them, and the money does outweigh the satisfaction you get; however, we are treated like dirt. We get no recognition for supervisors. They expect you to do more and more so they can have a break from their jobs. It's just crazy! Poor management will be the downfall of that place! The only reason that I stay is for the individuals!

I do not know if you work at London or Somerset, but management will be the downfall for London. If you have a problem, you better prepare to suck it up. You will not get any help from management. When I say a problem, I am talking about with the individuals. Example: Someone needs to go to the doctor, housemate problems, etc.

How can they(the company) expect you to take these people out every week-end without money? They know they are going to want something. It is like taking a kid to the candy store and telling them that they can't have anything. It causes more behaviors.

I am talking about the one in Somerset. The management is basically the same. Same scenerio you described for us also. The individuals really need to be somewhere that the owners and supervisory staff is not so greedy. If it didn't cost so much for them to get the services they would have a little extra money. It's really so, so sad.

I've worked at both IO and CAKY and I like CAKY better. No the pay isn't great and it has it's problems but so does IO. I care about the people I care for and I like my job. And jobs are not plenty around here. Plus CAKY has good insurance which means a lot now a days. The line of work it's self has a high turn over because some people can't do it. And there are gossipers at every place that provides services like CAKY and IO. Oakwood is the worst. But apply at CAKY if you don't like it go some were else.

i worked at caky and was a home manager. i worked 80 hours a week and only got paid for 40 with all the paper work i had to take home. but i know what you mean by the cheif's not wanting to do anything. some people get a taste of power and their heads are so far up their own a$$es they dont know whats going on. thats how it is anywhere you work though.

Just to let you all know if you are looking for a job where there is no gossiping and no trouble-makers, then good luck to you!! I have worked at Oakwood, Independent Opportunities, CAKY in Winchester, and now I work in a nursing home, no matter where you go there is gossip and trouble-makers and a## sucks but you just have to make the best of it and find a job that you truly enjoy and just ignore all the gossip!! Good Luck to you!!
