Alleged strip club raided in Somerset
By Andy Mead

When it opened several months ago, DJ's Karaoke Cafe was touted as a place for good, clean fun.

But police, who raided the club Saturday night, say there was a lot more than off-key singing going on.

An undercover informant had visited the club Friday night, equipped with a hidden video camera, and bought a ”bottomless“ lap dance from a woman working there, Somerset Police Detective Shannon Smith said Sunday.

In the background of the video, police could see liquor being sold, and slot machines, Smith said.

Alcohol sales and gambling aren't allowed in Somerset. There is an ordinance for adult entertainment businesses patterned after Lexington's, but neither the owner of DJ's nor anyone else has applied for a license, Smith said.

Attempts to reach DJ's Sunday were unsuccessful; a telephone number listed for the business had been disconnected.

Police seized alcohol, eight electronic gambling devices, financial records and cash Saturday. They also observed that several female employees were wearing lingerie, Smith said.

No charges have been filed; Smith said police want to talk with prosecutors first.

The cafe is on North Main Street, only about half a mile from the police station and courthouse. Smith said police started getting numerous tips early this month that karaoke wasn't the main attraction at DJ's.

”I can understand somewhat they might have had anonymity if they had been way out in county,“ Smith said.”But this is conservative town. When word spread about this, it spread rapidly.

Hmmm... Places like Deja Vu don't serve alcohol either. If licensing is available for a non-alcohol club, somebody should capitalize on this. This town will get with the program sooner or later as far as the alky is concerned so include a bar in the construction.

I think our local police need to worry about the more important things going on here in Somerset. What is a strip club and has members doing to hurt anyone? I don't see anything wrong with having an Adult Entertainment facility here. There are much worse crimes going on and they just turn their nose to it.

The having a strip club part wasn't the main issue. It was the alcohol being served there and the illegal gambling machines inside.

ok ive been IN that place when the first opened it and all i saw was an old fart doing the karaoke machines and old ladies doin the twist on the dance floor. my friends and i left when we found it was a five dollar cover and there was no were to smoke. we figured for that we could go to any of the dumps in burnside sans the old peoples.

even funnier is that its close to where i live. wish i had been a fly on the wall for that raid.

UHMM, EVERY strip club in Lexington and Richmond I have ever been to DO serve alcohol. Duh... the name of the game at those clubs is to get the patrons drunk so they're more loose with their cash. LOL

Deja Vu doesn't, but you only have to be 18 to get in. Cool thing about the strip clubs in Lexington is that your still allowed to smoke in them. They dont give a shit, they just pay the fine each month.
