The Somerset Police Department is investigating a fatal accident that occurred Saturday night.

At 9:58 PM, a Pulaski County sheriff's deputy noticed a 1998 black Nissan passenger car, driven by Justin Litton, age 36, of Somerset parked at a closed business on West KY 80 without its headlamps on. When the deputy turned to check out the situation, Litton pulled out and went eastbound on KY 80. A short distance later, Litton's vehicle crossed the centerline just west of the WTLO Road intersection and struck a white 2005 Suzuki head-on. The Suzuki was driven by Levi Stephens, age 33, also of Somerset, which had been westbound on KY 80.

The impact trapped both drivers in their vehicles and sent Stephens' vehicle off the road where it came to rest on the north side of the highway.

A helicopter from Air Methods airlifted Litton from the scene to the University of Kentucky Hospital. Stephens was transported by ambulance to the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital where he was later pronounced dead by the Pulaski County Coroner's Office.

Traffic on West KY 80 was blocked for about three hours as the SPD Accident Reconstruction Unit conducted their on-scene investigation.

Officers were assisted at the scene by the Pulaski County Sheriff's Department, the Pulaski County Coroner's Office, the Somerset-Pulaski County EMS, the Somerset Fire Department, and the Somerset-Pulaski County Haz-Mat Special Response Team.

The investigation is continuing and investigators are looking into alcohol involvement as a contributing factor.
