Heard on the radio that there's a petition for Ky to seceed. What's the plan, secede, go bankrupt and then have the states buy it back as some theoretical bailout?

Petitions for secession filed from Louiaiana and Texas have already been received well over 10,000 signatures. Alabama,Tennessee, Oregon, Florida,Arkansas,South Carolina, Missouri, Kentucky, Colorada, New Jersey, Montana,North Dakota, Indiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Alabama, Michigan and Georgia. A petition was also filed for New York by the same person from North Dakota.
However, before you get yourself into a tizzy over whether the U.S. will soon be 20 States short of 50, Gawer points out that the petitions are most likely much to do about nothing.
As unilateral secession was ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court, It remains to be seen if this movement is more than a toothless temper tantrum thrown by armchair revolutionaries.

Yeah, sounds like noise making. Were a state to secede it would lose all federal support from the mail, to medicare to food being imported. That doesn't mean that some states couldn't figure it out, but it would not be quick and it would get very ugly.

Better not do that - We'd have to put up with all the gas baron candidates for Prez of Ky. - On 2nd thought , wouldn't be much different from the present - We need a Hooters worse than we need another civil war -

Wouldn't be much of a civil war to it.

Californees might break a nail scratching.

The Washington DC bunch are too busy trying to screw everything and everybody.

CIA, FBI and SECRET SERVICE could be taken out by a handful of Real Pros.

I have a lot better idea. Texas started this. Lets all sign the petition urging for Texas secession. If they secede from the nation and start their own country, all the fruitloops and teabaggers in Kentucky will move there. Then Kentucky will never again have to put up with dumb hillbilly jokes because all the ones causing those jokes will be in Texas. Then we can make dumb cowboy jokes about them.

Yes if you take all the people around here off their stamps and welfare checks it'll get really ugly because they aren't used to working!!!!!!

I do think the whole "succession" idea is ridiculous though.

Be careful what you ask for Mr.KnowitAll. Surely if Somerset did get a Hooters, then folks such as yourself will surely be chattering on Topix about how sad the low quality Hooter girls of Somerset are. It's okay to want a new chicken wing place to eat, but take caution on what you ask for, may regret, and perhaps which will cause you to lose your appetitie.

Jenny's right. Tell all of those people to move to one state and then have their vote to secede. They'd probably want a less populated state like Wyoming or North Dakota.

Please don't pick on Wyoming and North Dakota. They're both great states and I see no reason to overload them with our wackos. That said, one of the petitions -- and my personal favorite -- asks that the president sign an executive order to strip U.S. citizenship from anyone who signed a petition to secede and requests that they be "peacefully deported." Now that's what I call a win-win situation!
