Im on K-Tap.....i work at a non-profit 35 hrs a week giving me just enough to pay my bills and a gas check that doesn't even last the whole month...after a year i've worked my way up to being the cleaning crew sup. or floor leader as they prefer to call it. my worker calls every week to make sure i've done all my hours....if i miss a couple hours i have to make it up that same week....
seriously some of you guys don't have clue what you're talking about.....some of us are just trying to support our families in whatever way we can..but instead of support all we get is this holier-than-thou attitude like we ALL just sponge off of the taxpayer.... i spent many a year BEING the taxpayer so i feel TOTALLY JUSTIFIED in being on K-Tap now that i need it.

The Job Shop (sp?) on Hwy 27, by (Baskin Robbins and Gold Star Chili) always has something posted on their marquee out front. Tell your boyfriend to give that a try. Best of luck to you both!

You are right it may have something posted, but the thing that they don't tell you is that it may be in Russell co. London, Wayne co. or other places. No insurance, no benefits and you sign a contract to work for them for so long. It cost my daughters boyfriend more in gas than he made. Then when the place offered him a full time job where he would make more money with benefits the job shop pulled him off the job.

I get K-Tap and I also get food stamps and a medical card for me and my child and I also get to keep my child support because its not much of anything and you can get into a prog. that is called work/learn or ready to work. and they will place you in a job at the college or else where and you will get paid about 410 every two weeks and also get a gas check for 200 bucks and and your K-Tap. and Food stamps, Medical you should check into it everything helps when your trying to better your self for you and your family!

K-Tap is more of a help up than a hand out, it had a time limit and it really benefits families. I have seen it work. Bless you all that are taking care of your children.

If a couple isn't divorced yet live apart can one apply for ktap? And if so, if this one applying doesn't have the child living with them and the other parent does and decides they need to apply, will anything change?

Mama, your child's father can see his child whether he pays child support or not, or whether you get ktap or not. He can have supervised visits even if he is an alcoholic or drug addict. The only way he cannot see the child is if you go to court and the judge says he can't see it. The courts want both parents in a childs life.

Who are YOU to decide if he is "Fit"? That should be decided by an impartial Judge after hearing BOTH sides of the story.

I believe K-TAP is a replacement for child support. So I do not think you get money if you receive child support and you have to apply unless you have no way to reach the father/mother. You are required then by law to do at least 20 hours of school, work, or volunteering a week. There is a lifetime cap of 5 years and research shows that the majority of people are not on it for more than 2.

You deserve the help, like many others that TRY (unless unable do to disability) Do let others get to you, you are doing your part in working...sometimes it's not enough and that's why we have these programs...alot abuse it unfortunately...KEEP DOING WHT YOUR DOING :)

Too many women with no job or a low paying job, but still ready to breed with a man who cannot or will not support them. Then they think the taxpayer should foot the bill for their poor judgement and unplanned pregnancy.

Honestly Trying, I can assure that you will qualify. It will be set up as a (W) case with both parents participating. One will work 30 hours a week and the other will work 20 at a non profit organization in the community. You will receive $200 per person for gas each month as well as your K-Tap program. You can only get K-tap for 5 years total. You will be set up with Vicky Cordell, the job coach as we call her and she will place you. With you going to school you can be eligible for the Ready to work program. With that you will be paid $8.75 an hour for your job placement (up to 30 hrs a week) That will not lessen your K-Tap but it will food stamps. This program is a wonderful boost for struggling families. I can also say NONE of the participants get the assistance without working for it, I say this because some doubt the usefulness of the program. This IS NOT welfare that was discontinued years ago.
What about a single parent that receives SSI? Am I eligible for ktap?

I don't understand these agreements with the fathers to not pay child support but yet you are applying for state assistants. Why should the dads be let off the hook while tax payers support the childern. I believe this is why they state insist that you apply for child support if you apply for katap.
