Last week I tried to buy a new handgun. I had found a pistol I liked and waited there for the check line phone call to come through. But they told me afterward that I was red flagged and that it will be days before I could get clearance and also they said there's a good chance that I might not even be able to buy it at all. What the hell is this all about?

I'm not a felon and haven't even had a traffic ticket in over 12 years. I'm not on any medications for mental illness and have no idea why I got just got flagged! I've never had a domestic violence charge either, or anything else for that matter which should keep me from getting another firearm. Of course the dealer can't or won't give me any answers either. My record is clean!

Has any body else around here had a problem getting a new gun from a dealer in the last few weeks? I just bought another pistol sometime last year, probably been over 12 months ago by now, and I was in and out of that dealer after the phone check in 20 minutes flat.

I own a few other guns and I've never had this kind of problem buying one before! Plus I don't own any that are considered assault weapons. They are all just regular hand guns or shotguns and they shouldn't even be classified as assault style weapons if or when these gun laws change over.

What the hell is going on around here and why would someone with no felony or mental background all of the sudden get red flagged and told they might not even be allowed to buy one? I've not even been out of the country in over 9 years now.

I need someone who knows what they're talking about to offer me some valid reasons why the FBI might have red flagged me.

So you gun haters, please don't get on here and spam this thread with your hopes for gun bans and crap. This is for some valid answers to why they would red flag someone who's never been a convicted felon, who's never had any domestic charges, someone who's not on any medications for mental illness, and someone who's got no lawful reason to be denied a weapon for self defense. Cause that's what I'm facing here.

Have things already gone this far? Could it be because I don't have a concealed carry permit? That wouldn't make any sense either though because we have open carry!

Obama has probably put his gun control plan into action, that would make an immediate stop to most purchases. Look at what New York just passed today, their residents have one year to "sell out of state" all semi-auto rifles and anything holding more than 7 rounds. The article said that if a residnt has a gun in their home with more than 7 rounds in it, they will be charged. This tells me that they plan on coming into homes to check.

People better wake up and wake up now.

check your credit rating. you might be the victim of identity theft. You could also happen to have the same name as a felon.

I bought a handgun (.22 revolver) from Paul's Discount in '06 and it took a week for a background check because my name "sounded foreign".

I got my gun but, this isn't Obama. They might have flagged you for something as simple as having a "foreign sounding" name.

Most of the new gun control proposals only affect things like muzzle flash suppressors, bayonet clips, silencers, large capacity magazines and so forth.

If you're hunting with a bayonet and a flash suppresor, you're doing it wrong :)

what if the bayonet is your lance and you are boar hunting, the firearm part of it is just, "in case."

Put the bayonet on a stick and get a side arm for just in case.

My last name is common. And there shouldn't of been no confusion on who I am because I had no problems with giving them my SS number on the application form. I figure the government already knows when we go to take a poop if they want to find out.

So whats holding me up like this is a total mystery. I'll check my credit history to make sure though that no body has stole my ID. That's a good idea right there.

Now I'm sitting here wondering if they're gonna knock on my door today for some crime or a felony that I'm not guilty of doing? Maybe somebody else has got into hot water and I'm about to find out the hard way how easy it is to get mistook for another person. Hope I can find me a real good lawyer if that's the case.

My Uncle done this 1 year ago, left with paper work still at gun dealer!
6 hours later A Dep. Sheriff was at his door (address on paper)
Arrested on warrant of arrest from Ohio.
My uncle had not been to Ohio since he was 7 years old.
He was let go the next day AFTER A 12 hour jail stay!!!
Someone had gave a VERBAL Social Security number when in jail and my uncle was clear ONLY AFTER HIS FINGERPRINTS Were sent to OHIO to not match the bail jumper.
A lawyer told him that happens quite often AND TO SOAK IT UP!
(A plus side he said he never had a better meal and they had cable he did not!

The gun dealer could have typed in the information on you wrong. One number off in a DOB or SS number will show you not in file meaning you could be using a false ID to buy a gun. That'll red flag you.

Let's see.... higher taxes and now gun control and Obama has not even been sworn in for a second term yet. Too many people drunk his "Kool-Aid" and now see what he is doing to this country. It has only begun.
Oh, I forgot, it is all Bush's fault! Sorry.

The poster of this post did not identify his or herself as a member of law enforcement, right? Or did they? Therefore your response to mines is irrelevant.
