Before you think about hiring a lawyer for criminal defense, you should always ask the lawyer if indeed he does criminal law. Most lawyers will represent that they are criminal lawyers for a fee, because many of them see the potential for quick money on a plea bargain.
For that reason, you should always go to step 2: when you are discussing the possibility of hiring a lawyer for a criminal matter, you should candidly ask the lawyer when he last went to trial for a client in a criminal matter.
This is simply because many lawyers will SAY that they are criminal lawyers, but when you ask them about their criminal trial experience, you will find that many SUPPOSED criminal lawyers have even tried a simple DUI.
Now, if the lawyer hasn't tried a case in a while, i.e., a year or so, then he or she probably has not had to stand up for their client, or in the alternative, WILL NOT stand up for their client, which sometimes necessitates a trial.
An alternative to going around town and trying to figure out who those lawyers are is going to the clerk's office and asking who the lawyers are who HAVE gone to trial for their clients and what his or her success rate is.
This is the best advise you will never pay for.

Yep...excellent advise and informed, also. Don't listen to these ninnies other than this post. Many respondents, I suspect, are self-promoting.

Recipie for getting off

Add 1 part Larry Whittaker

10 parts money

1 part Thompson's office

Drag out and delay till the heat goes away or the victims get tired of showing up in court to state their side or the officer miss a court date.

Then grandstand about the outrage of it taking so long and ask for a dismissal. Then Thompson can agree to it in open court.

Problem solved (for you)

But not the hard working honest people of Pulaski county.

This is the standard LW/BT operating procedure.
All traffic offences stay on your record a certain number of years and the time is based on your CONVICTION date not the arrest or court date. If you have already been convicted of a dui and get arrested again for another one if you draw the case out long enough with continuences it can go past the time when the first one is held against your record. What that means you can have a dui , first offence several times. Believe me it happens all the time. Before the next election in 2009 maybe?, and watch the county attorney's office in action. Compare arrest reports to court dates and case numbers to court dates and how the system really works.
When you have people that work the system the way they do it is apparent to me that the legal community here in Pulaski is either incompetent or crooked and I dont know which is more disturbing.

I wished I was worried about ramifacations for wreckless statements and that what I was saying was not even remotly believable but a couple of afternoons in the courtroom and there is no denying what I am saying as the undisputed truth.

Please people open your eyes and demand more from the courthouse. Demand equal justice for eveyone rich or poor. Or the connected and obscure. The related or unrelated. It is just so frustrating as a regular run of the mill law abiding, tax paying, take care of and mind my own business kind of guy like me when so many out there are getting by with circumventing the rules and I am having to foot the bill for it.

I am tired of it and Starting with this presidential election and the local, county and state races in the future I am not going to sit by quietly and just take what they dish out to me, I will let my voice be heard and my opinion known. The elected officials are going to be held accountable if they are going to take my tax money and spend my tax money. The gravy train is over for them
