One more thing. If the local cops can't generate revenue in something then they don't care about it.
They'd rather ticket you for no seat belt than investigate a break in.
They've become nothing more than tax collectors.
Well said

Most have a dream of working for KSP, it really has nothing to do with pay or management, these guys just want to work for the state police, it opens more doors for advancement toward other things and also has better pay, so to say they are leaving for reason other than working for the State police, they also know as long as Eddie is in there then Doug will stay at the top, no room for advancement, Doug has more than enough time in to retire, he should move on and give someone else a chance to move up, I think he should have like 25 or 26 years in by now.

Thank you for pointing me to the CJ article. I read that smoke and mirror story when it was published.
Degree? Really? It used to be a requirement but that has been relaxed for many years. And no one has left the SPD for the U.S. Marshals Service, he left from the SFD and it has been more than a decade since anyone left for a position with the FBI - they left under Chief Gilbert who did require a degree. Again, some of the guys that left last year, left for lower paying jobs.
About that degree requirement, read the intro to the latest SPD recruiting ad:
"Are you looking for a stable and rewarding career in law enforcement? Or, do you know someone with at least a high school education, age 21 or older, with a clean background?"

Chief Gilbert was an FBI NA graduate. He was not a mayor's lapdog. He investigated mayors and city dept's that were corrupt.
He never hid anything from the media. Even when he fired officers that were unfit.

Nelson said it in his newspaper article, they can title him whatever as far as acting chief. BUT you noticed he never said he would step down if it would better the police dept. or the citizens.

He could have retired years ago, but his ego is same as his mayor's.

I say make him chief and the mayor will have a new enemy, Nelson took a good man down, i am confident you put him in the chiefs spot and the power would get to him so quick , that he would figure out a way to get this mayor. Girdler has a bad habit of trusting the wrong people, he needs to start trusting the people that tells him like it is, instead of the ones that smile and agree with him all the time.

I bet one of the reasons we have so many officers leaving the department is the never-ending chain of 'acting chiefs.' How many have we had in this position since King Girdler came to power? Having a true Chief of Police is crucial to having a stable, well prepared department. How can we make the king permanently hire a chief?

Its the councils fault plain and simple. They have not forced the issue but the dumb voters of this city keep voting them in there each and every time.

The acting chief failed to state he has had officers go to the sheriff's dept. here which has less benifits and no overtime. Their deputies work 10 hour days with many more calls for service that gthe city.

The city government needs to look at mismanagement from the police acting chief. They have money to insure boats, airplanes, humvees, plus maintenance on those items, but they are ignoring the fact 12 officers left last year because of a dictatorship style of leadership in city hall.

A shame for the community and law enforcement.
Axe to grind much??lol
I know of no one that has left the PD and went to the SO and actually would find that hard to believe. If they did, they made a poor decision.

Yes there is a young deputy that came to the sheriff's office from the city police because of Nelson's leadership.

There may have been one, but how many have left the sheriff and went to work at the police department?

A better question is how many have left the sheriffs office for other departments since the current office holder?

I hear a bunch of SPD officers are applying for state police and one is going to sheriffs office. That is after they all gotten raises, so don't tell me its about the money, also how bad does the SPD have to be to make one of their own officers go to the sheriff dept, with the problems they have over there?
