I hope there are plenty running, most of the ones that are in there now are a waste of taxpayers money, some of them never say a word or never bring any issues up, I know with all that is going on in the City there are plenty of issues that need brought up. I know Jr and he would be a good one.

I'm supporting anyone that runs against Rutherford. He may think second hand smoke is tasty being a smoker himself, but most of the US understands the dangers of smoking and what it does to people around smokers. He will never get my vote and I will actively help whoever runs against him. He can sit on his porch and smoke all he wants after he loses the next election.

I wouldn't vote against him on the smoking ban issue, I would vote against him because most of them are useless and are way over paid for what they do and if you watch the council meetings I really don't know if a few of them can even talk.

I myself don't smoke, but am not against anyone who does, I look at this whole issue as another right the goverment has taken away, we all complain about about our rights and freedoms being taken away and then ask the goverment to step in and take someone else's right away, we have very few freedoms anymore thou all it takes is a few to complain and the goverment will step in. I look at it this way, if a place allows people to smoke and you don't like it no one has to go into a place that allows it, if people keep asking goverment to ban the things they don't like then pretty soon goverment will be setting all the rules to live by, which they pretty much are doing now. the preserveatives/ additives that are added to anything we buy at the store is alot worse than smoking ever dared to be, at least you can walk away from a smoker, but once you eat what ever you buy in the store that junk is in your body for good.

Your info is wrong. Jim doesn't smoke. If you read the article you would have seen that. His argument was for the business owners legal rights. It made sense to me and since he served in the military and fought for your rights and mine then I can understand why he chose to protect them!

Votes such are yours are what scare most of us half to death.. You'd actually NOT vote for a candidate simply because they smoke? How about a candidate who has a drink once in a while? Do you honestly think that your congressmen and senators don't smoke a big fat $50.00 cuban cigar while they sit and decide our lives over a snifter of very expensive brandy? At our expense, of course.... Frightening. And also a HUGE part of what's wrong with this area. Simple minded and petty thinking.

Jim hasn't smoked in 3 years, it shows guts to take a stand by yourself and he did. I hope people will get out and run for council and get some of the moochers off of there! Its suppose to be more than just a check they are suppose to represent taxpayers and protect employee rights. They don't do much of either if you look at all the lawsuits that has been filed and settled by the city that employee's that have said thier rights have been violated and i am sure their will be more to come, no doubt! We have a mayor that thinks he is god and can do what he wants, to whomever he wants. We need people up there willing to put him in his place!

I didn't say I wasn't voting for him because he smokes. Read the post. Doesn't matter whether he smokes or doesn't. The smoking ban is a good thing and a high number of counties and cities across the United States have passed No Smoking Ban. This is typical Rutherford politics. Nobody will talk about me unless I vote in the minority. Check public records on his voting record and his brother too. Whatever the issue it's controversy because they need a headline. That's why I'm not supporting them and I'll help with more than a few votes.

There is controversy because the mayor you support is a ego maniac. You evidently have no voice of your own. You must be one of those go along with anything as long as i can get something out of it people. Mr. Girdler has hired plenty of them.

i dont agree with all this you cant do this and that we suppose to be the land of the free what the hell is free right . Think about we cant have liquer stores we cant have bars or even applebees haha damn somerset is like so bad this place is so boring no wonder all the people is going to drugs its takes their mind to a better place because theres no thing around here only sit home and watch tv thats especially in the winter. I cant stand, it wouldnt it be nice just to walk around and actually have a down down that was fun.A place like hooters to go to and watch the game, sounds good dont it or have just a lots of places to go see like they do in gattlingburg that would be so awsome somerset needs to wake the hell up in go up there and run for major and councils and put this place on the map. Im tired of haveing to take a two hour drive just to have fun with my kids or even a fourth five minute drive just to buy a case of beer for the week end arent you guys. This place needs to turn wet all the way put some good places to eat and bars and that would even give people jobs and hope in this one horse town

You do realize that Jim is a good Christian man who believes is preservation of rights. I'm certain he prayed long and hard about that difficult decision. He has no desire to be placed in a spotlight but he does do what he feels is right. Have you ever even talked to him? Your post indicate that you have no idea who this man is. God bless you!

How about Jim Rutherford for Mayor? Hes the only one on the city council that has the backbone to stand alone and defend all our rights. I say we clean the city up and vote out the mayor and the other 11 council members. Lets put people in there that defend the rights and freedoms of all not just a select few whiners.

The City voters better think long and hard to replace all in positions of running the city as well as the county. You keep voting the same people and will only get the same results. The mayor has cost this city enough, and the council did not have the backbone to stand up and make things right while in their position as a council member. Don't make the next few years the same mess as it is now from this bunch....Find INTELLEGENT PEOPLE to run this town and county.

First agenda....run the druggies to the county line and clean up the town. The County has been the laugh of the state and it is time to make changes to be noted as a good place to live, work and entertain...not unemployed, drug infested, murders and thieves running around. The sheriff had this all big talk of taking care of finding those involved in the Kevin Price situation, and instead the drug dealers has won this town. It is time to take it back and make it safe for people to live.
Vote to clean house of the politics and community.

His brother Tim stood alone a lot and that got him beat the last election. That is why the rest of them except for one or two just sit there and let this mayor do whatever he wants too. Its about the the check.
