Do they sell liquor in your grocery stores?
No, not yet and that's statewide. That might chance soon though, the court struck down the law preventing grocery stores from selling wine and liquor.

The only issue was the requirement to have a separate entrance. If the law is struck down they won't have to have a separate entrance to sell liquor. They will however sill have to get there hands on one of those elusive quota licenses.

Side note. Everyone should meet the owner of Liquor world prior to so graciously inviting into this community.

To the best of my knowledge, the City is only going to allow Wild Cat Beer,Wine,& Spirits to proceed with the retail sale of liquor, because they complied with the "economic standards" the mayor wanted. No one else will be allowed to sell pkg. liquor, until the fiasco/feud with ABC over not approving Liquor World, etc., is settled. I've also been told that Wild Cat will not be selling liquor until April 1st, by an "unreliable" source. If anyone hears anything different please post it on here so everyone will know, thanks......

That law was only about grocery stores having a "separate entrance" and room to where the liquor was displayed. They don't have to do that now, they can sell it right next to the beer in the main store if they want. I'm surprised Kroger's didn't jump on that with all four's!

According to the way the law actually reads, Somerset should be allowed "28 quota licenses".

From a somewhat reliable source I hear Wildcat will be open the last week of march or first week of April at the latest. I pass it every day and there is always a bunch of contractors there.

Will keep you posted if I hear something different

This is my thinking as well. I really think the number Somerset got was lower than it should have been. They are supposed to take into account the size of the city relative to the area it serves. That came from the ABC. We got fewer licenses than Danville and by October, Somerset was selling more in the categories that were approved than Danville.(Danville averages 530K in package malt sales per month in Winter and Somerset sold 741K in October and 874K in November). November sales were quite a bit higher than Danville and by the summer, it will probably be double that amount. It's hard to believe that 5 small liquor licenses are going to work for such demand. My only hope is that one of them gets bought out or at least they put enough of their revenue into expanding. I have no idea why Liquor Barn didn't jump all over

this market. That was a big mistake on their part. I do think they would have gotten approval.
Liquor Mart guys told me they were coming to Somerset, and to look for them,.........doesn't look that way now, unless Girdler obtains more quota licenses!!

"Kim Jung Girdler", that made me chuckle with my Lexington purchased Kendall Jackson. Given the Mayor's current mood I am sure he would laugh also.

They need to turn all the license winners loose and let it play out. This stalling is BS. Just looking around town it appears none of them are waiting. They are all under construction. They appear to be calling the mayors bluff.

Liqour Mart owners actually live here in Somerset, they have several stores, may be why they did not get one.
